Well I wake up this morning to check on all my T's and I have been paying close attention to a GBB female that was looking rather dark and dull. I had paired her with my MM and secretly hoped that she might be gravid. Well this morning I awoke to find that I now have two Green Bottle Blue sacs!! {D

I have paired him with two other females as well and I am now keeping a close eye on them as well. I figured I'd pair them so that the female might speed up her molting to procreate. I'll post a video at some point today! Man this little guy got the job done!

Thanks guys! I'm not pulling the sacs... it's just not something I believe in doing. I keep a very close eye on them and as soon as they hatch I will remove the mother, collect the babies, and return the mother to her enclosure. I personally feel that if they survive in the wild as such that they shall continue to do so in my care.

Dude...

When I read through and saw about the second sac, my jaw dropped.

Congrats!

Please keep us posted and I wish you the best of luck.

How big are your females?

You must be doing something right or that male is just a stud. Good luck!

On my youtube channel I posted a muti-part GBB mating prep video. That pairing didn't work out so well that I know of. I suspected my female was gravid (she was 5-5.5") and she ate the male. She got pretty big and then she died out of the blue. I kept her tank dry (after my attempt to soak the soil) and water available. It broke my heart.

So I keep mine warm and dry with available water and ample hiding space. I introduced the male and left the doors open on the enclosure for when he needed to high tail out of there afterward. So I learned from my mistake the first time though her death was nothing of my doing - I changed the soil out at one point. Oh yeah, and the most important factor... I leave them alone.

But as for your jaw dropping Joe... yes, I understand exactly your reaction that. I was pretty amazed to discover the sac myself. I'm very proud of this MM I have... he's a trooper. He knows he has a job to do and he does it and then he gets the hell out of dodge. My females are roughly 4-4.5" and I intentionally paired my male with females of comparable size. I thought it might be easier for the male to get on with his thing because with my larger female... the male was less than half her size and seemed completely intimidated. So it was trial and error on my part but persistance and some major cahones on his part.

Jason,

I have a fresh female that's about 4". If your male is still going strong and you are done with him, I'd absolutely love a shot at it. Let me know.

Hey Joe...

if you're serious about that we'd need to do it quickly. He molted mature in June but he's still going strong.

Congrats on the sacs!

I've gotten 5 sacs from these in the past 2 years. We were breeding 9 females at a time though. This year hasn't been as successful though. The only thing I have to say is keep an eye on the females to make sure they do not eat them. Also one problem I had was that one of the females wrapped up the egg sac too tight and there wasn't any room to expand for the eggs inside. Luckily I opened it in time but I ended up loosing half of that egg sac. I wish you the best of luck though!!

Thanks much... I appreciate the heads up Bob! I am watching them pretty closely. Any sign of consumption and I am prepared to yank the sac and incubate the babies for the duration. I'm hoping it does not come to that but if it does I'm ready to deal with it.

Awesome! I'm very excited to hear how this goes. I got a 3inch female so I got to learn much as I can about breeding this species.

Thanks everyone... much appreciation. I love these creatures so much and it is such an amazing experience when one of the females you have paired lays eggs. I never get tired of it even when my G. Rosea hatched her sac. Tarantulas are living works of art and beauty and serve as necessary elements in the world that hold the insect populations somewhat at bay. I really am hoping I can witness the hatching and development of GBB's - I love this species so much. I'm all emotional about it now... I'll quit this here. LOL! :wall:

Just saw this. Congratulations Jason! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

I think my next order from you is going to be a bit bigger than planned. The Haplopelma and OBT slings are all doing fantastic!!!
