Final Verdict on Scotts Topsoil

So after a month or two, cricket test, several molts and burrows it appears there are no adverse effects. Posting this because for a dollar more than the cheap stuff it settles ALOT better for burrowing and is more uniform. I let it dry for a day only then added it and now almost all of my enclosures are also chalk full of springtails. This has held true for several bags and enclosures now so for all you topsoil fans out there long story short, the extra dollar is well worth it IMO.

I tried some here in WA State (as actual top soil in my garden), and it was full of ground wood and mulch. Very little actual dirt.

You must be using a different type lol, We live in the middle of cattle country so flies are rampant and haven't had any issues with it or odor. That said though I wouldn't recommend using it without springtails unless you stir it on the top every few days to keep it from molding until their population gets established.

I've read it can vary by region which makes sense. Were in the midwest so there's more dirt than trees out here.
