i am having a d60 arriving today and hope to get some shot like these, sad thing is once i try it out and like it i will have to send it back, due to financial problems just want to know what it's like so when i can afford it i know what it's all about already. Mine comes with the extra lens but it's not macro, i hope to capture some lightening as well that we will be having all week.

well have fun diggy. just remember though. photography is addicting, expensive, and takes lots of pateince. trust me im still nothing compared to gavin(draiman) or tunebeat, or dark raptor. their pics are incredible. also to get good lenses you got to have money. because there far from cheap. the 105mm macro lens im dying to get is almost $900 bucks! and others i want are just as expensive. i could easily drop 4000 dollars on lenses and lighting equiptment in about 10 minutes if i had it.

Your photos just go to show what's so amazing about bugs...diversity! How many of these bugs were the first experience you ever had with the species? I've been looking a long time and I can still go out in my backyard on a regular basis and see something I've never seen before!

The leaf beetle (Chyrsomelidae) is probably Saxinis sp. or Babia sp.

The leafhopper is Graphocephala coccinea.

Cool stuff- I never knew Missouri had anything more than Yakov Smirnoff. That hopper is a bee-yoot!

Yeah, just playin'. Really, that is quite an array of insects. Here we have a lot of diverse landscapes, but populations seem isolated & unless you visit different habitats all in the same day, you're not likely to see too much diversification. I swear if I see another black, anonymous ground spider or common isopod, I will collect beanie babies instead.

Hello :)

Generally you are right but you don't need to buy so expensive equipment for macro shots. Just check out what can you get with cheap, M42 lens and manual extension tubes (I get them for 20$) ;) You should spend some money on a external speedlight (SB-800 or SB-600), but it is also possible to take pictures like these with build-in speedlight and home-made diffuser.

Camera: Nikon D200 (the same CCD sensor as in D80)
Lens: Industar-61L/3-MC 50/2.8 (M42 bayonette, MADE IN CCCP - Soviet Union :D ) and manual extension tubes.
