Hi all, I need some advice regarding one of my jumping spiders. I thought it was a female, but it has changed since moulting. Please see the pictures and let me know what you think.

Hi, sorry for not replying sooner. It was shop-bought, and it looks like Tilley is a male, as he now has the boxing gloves showing.

The green/blue chelicerae are also a dead giveaway. Females have a more red/pink colour to them.

This only applies to Phidippus regius females, doesn't work with audax etc. There are also cases when a female used to have pink chelicerae, but they turned green after molting.
Anyway, this specimen is male as there are obvious palpal bulbs.

Sorry, you are correct here, both male and female P. audax can typically possess iridescent green chelicerae, making this characteristic alone insufficient for definitive sex determination. The primary distinction lies in the intensity rather than the base colour—males generally display more vibrant iridescence on their chelicerae compared to females.
