Info please - anything special I need to know about feeding termites to slings? I assume they are just placed in the t's container for the t's to feast on. I know uneaten ones will die within a relatively short time, as they need close to 100% humidity to survive, but will they burrow into the substrate to die or will they remain on the surface? Thanks!!!

Thanks Mister Internet

I did read the thread you recommended before I posted my query. The thread is almost 100% about raising termites with very little info about use as food. My question is about feeding termites to t's.
Are there any dos and don'ts I need to be aware of.
Thanks.

your facial expressions will go something like this if you are able to raise some termites but then they some how escape and you wonder what happened to your house : :) :? :(  :wall:

Did you not read the thread MrI suggested? Your risk of getting termites from a colony indoors is infinitesimally small. It's not like you are bringing a queen into your house. Should you get termites it is more likely a local subterranean colony found you from the wilds of your lawn. Did you realize that an average size lawn has 5-12 termite colonies and that for each human on the planet there are something like 19 Xs their weight in termites populating the planet.

WOW!!! Reaching into numbers I can't even grasp here :wall: :wall:

As for feeding them to slings, they are fine. I've been known to drop in 2-4 at a feeding and depending on the little ones appetite, they'll be eaten or will die in a few days. For the smallest slings I avoid using the soldiers which have a nice set of mandibles and could possibly injure the sling, but otherwise the others are completely vegan and are rather defenseless. Feed the fattening little morsels, 2nd instars find them a great 1st food...

And if you would rather farm them from the great outdoors click HERE

Thanks to all for your help.

I guess i'll spend part of today collecting a few termites. I've got some slings that are probably hungry and will most likely welcome a change from the cricks they have been existing on.
At some later date I may try the termite farming or even the in-house breeding/raising.

Old thread, but exactly the answer I was looking for to solve my tiny scorpion sling problem. Free food for tiny spiders, plings, slings, and 2nd instar amblypygi. My life just got a whole lot easier.
