Theres several great roaches used as feeders.

B. dubia
Blaberus spp.
N. cinerea
B. lateralis
Some others too.

I wouldnt go with orange heads though, Supposedly there one of the smellier ones and prone to wing biting.

I've read B. lateralis get about the same size as lobsters, breed just as fast, and can't climb smooth surfaces. They also lay egg cases.

I am so scared of roaches. In my lawn they are starting to come out cuz of summer i guess so i went on a little roach hunting trip to front yard. I found about four really huge roaches that would of been great meals for my three emps and my lizard. I got all three of them under cups but because of my phobia i ended up only catching 1. I dropped it in with my scorps still waiting to see whats going to happen. I really am scared of roaches and dont know why i dont have this problem with beatles, scorps, spiders, ect. Any tips on how to fix this im tired of crix and mealworms.

yes

actually i find roaches very smelly especially when they are being wrestled by the scorps, they emit wet substance which is kinda smelly & i find dirty...but i feed my scorps roaches because i find it difficult to catch crickets in my area....:? :? :? :? :? :?

eww roaches. I hate them there brown ugly little creatures. I actually enjoy feeding them to my scorps or my lizard beacuse i like to see them die. I just cant touch them because i have a phobia of roaches but i cant catch crix around my area either. I heat them i just cant see them.

Wife told me crickets are ok...and she'll even put up with Scorpions and Tarantulas...but if I think of roaches then she's moving out. LOL

Guess crickets are good enough for me! :)

Ryan,

I have 5 cultures of B. lateralis. They do not breed as prolifically as N. cinerea but they are still fast breeders *IF* maintained at temps above 80F/27C. The sexes are also easily distinguished as the males are golden in coloration and the fems very dark brownish-red to almost black.
Males and females do not fly, cannot climb smooth surfaces and have no smell. They are very fast moving and provide a bit of exercise for scorps. The males are incredibly fast, can jump and can flutter from a higher surface to a lower one.
They do well on a diet of fruits, vegetables and dried dog food.

All,

Another great feeder roach is the Cuban burrowing cockroach, Byrsotria fumigata. These are a bit larger than B. lateralis:

Blatta lateralis up to 30 mm
Byrsotria fumigata up to 45 mm

Luc,

Yeah I had a feeling they didnt breed quite as fast as lobsters,
You can keep lobsters at room temps and still have more then you need!

Ryan,

About 18 months back, I started with 250 lobsters. In just 1 year, I had enough to supply myself and all of my herptile-keeping friends!
The primary problem with lobsters is that they can easily climb out of the scorp's hunting range and in my opinion, do not make the best feeder roaches for most inverts.

Luc,

Thats the only problem I have with lobsters. So now I'm most likely gonna get B. lateralis. Ill probably start out with 100-200 or so.

Take care,
Ryan
