You don't need water bowl bowls for crickets, and they love to make a disgusting mess out of them.

I'd follow Poec54's and cold blood's advice on this one. Again, I'm talking strictly about roaches here. I'd imagine that garden crystals and chick feed would work the same, but... yeah, roaches. I stay very far away from any fresh vegetables or fruits. It creates an ungodly smell and also creates a great place for mold to take foot.
I have raised Dulbia roaches for my bearded dragon for a few years now and requirements are different for them. I use the water crystals but I mix their dry food using extra calcium and some other nutrients the BD needs but nothing too fancy. I use fresh fruits, not every day, but a few times a week. I haven't had any problems with smell or flies. I think the key here is not too much. I give them what they can eat in a few hours and if anything is left over at the end of the day it it taken out. I have two boxes for them one for breeding, one for feeding. If I start getting too many I unplug the breeder heating mat so the temp drops to low 70s and they stop breeding.

I feed Ts and the BD from the same roach bin. So far, I haven't had a T refuse a Dubia, though I have heard a lot of people have.

I've not have not raised nor took care of a cricket since I used them to go fishing with as a kid.

That or they find a way to drown. I swear to god crickets drown if you just say the word "water" near them.

Apparently their natural habit is low rainfall, because they don't know how to handle water.

Just use fresh veggies, orange cubes aren't worth it IMO they dry out way too quickly and the price is too much. For the amount of cubes used for crickets and the price of it, it would be way cheaper to just buy crickets when you need them.

Personally I don't really breed crickets because they're smelly, annoying, etc. But instead I only buy them occasionally then feed off the males and place all the females "which are always gravid" in a tank with deep substrate, a few days later I'll feed them off and then in a few weeks i"ll have hundreds of pinheads that feed on veggies in the tank that I use for my slings. then when I start to run low I'll repeat the process. For my juveniles and up I use my roach colony which is much easier to have then crickets.

Do humans gut-load when they go out to eat at a restaurant? Well, actually some do.
Well, certain folks at certain "All You Can Eat" restaurants surely do something like that, like "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps" movie :)

When I go to Nori Nori (all you can eat sushi buffet) The sashimi chef has actually left before when he saw me take 24+ pcs of octopus in front of him. Twice. I certainly gut load.

The goal at all-you-can-eat places is: 'Eat until you can't walk.'

hehe, all I could think of....

When I first went to Nori Nori, they saw me and were like "He's a child right? Child price then" And my mum insisted on Adult. They made a grave mistake. I've grown since then, so now I'm not small enough to do child price!

Good work. I didn't know if anyone would get the reference. "It's only wafer thin!"
Well, it's easy in the Internet era (and in a certain way, sadly) just "Google" that, and you're done. Not me. I watched those movies, and i'm an admirer of Terry Gilliam, "Brazil" especially.
