this is the most stupid thing I've ever heard... mantis a pest?? Mantis and arachnids are the solution.. they eat unimaginable amounts of "pests" every day!
Yes, of coz they are not pests but have you seen how pesticides are being used in farms and at home?

yes, a B. smithi COULD eat a matid, it could eat a mouse, maybe even a pede. There are risks but I say if you feel good with it do it, after all it is your pet. For all I know you can throw them off walls, i might not agree, but at the end of the day they are your pets. I say go for it , its not like anybody can stop you.{D

 Truthfully this is the best response I have read. Just because you could doesn't mean you should. Going beyond my rant about parasites, EC's mention of trophic levels, and all the people agreeing that an adult mantid could be a formidable foe, it just boils down to, "Do you really want to risk your pet over a food item?". Cats are natural carnivores in the wild. Does this mean i go catch Harbor Rats from the jetties down the street and take them home? But basically it is your pet and its your call. We are all just trying to steer you in the direction that we feel would be best for your T.
