Crassicus lamanai, and it was called out by the common name of Belize Cinnamon at the time.

My wife grabbed a miserable looking, dehydrated adult female at a reptile expo and she eventually became the beautiful spider in my avatar picture. As well as her personal favorite. I'm hoping it's still sporadically imported and just not available "right now", but this species is currently nowhere to be found.

The lesson I'm taking away from all of this is that if you love a particular species, acquire several, hold on to them and try to facilitate breeding. None of us know which species are going to disappear from the hobby or suddenly get hard to acquire...
I’m buying 5 rose hair slings in the future for this purpose. They’re so beautiful and unavailable lol

They hold a deeply personal place in my heart, first T. Got me over my arachnophobia, I handled her in a pet store, scared. Then, I bought her that same second, fascinated and overjoyed. It’s going to be an expensive bullet to bite, but I need one again. And for clarification, my preferred rose hair is the G. Porteri.
I miss mine deeply, and they were great ambassadors for the hobby

Dolichothele exilis!

Diamantinensus' brown sibling, but such a bold little sling who's already made a wonderful intricate tunnel system of webbing. I think brown Ts get overlooked too easily.

Also +1 for n incei, affordable, also make amazing web tunnel systems, exciting to feed and absolutely beautiful, even as slings.

That’s the Y diversipes? 😍 love the coloring, truly gorgeous spiders
Yes, the diversipes is the one on the ground, she directly jumped from the vial to the enclosure, so I left her explore.

The versicolor in the other hand, bolted a bit, so I had to catch it and place it on the enlosure. As soon as she entered she started making a cocoon, now it's exploring the enclosure too.

Also added some velcro like adhesive underneath, to prevent any unwanted falls due to air currents etc. It's quite helpful to hold in place small vials or boxes.

I have a Crassicrus Veracruz. Really lovely Tarantula, not the same I know.. but worth a look. I’m newer to the hobby and the old favourites are gold dust

Another vote for Ornithoctonus aureotibialis. Some people don’t like keeping Asian fossorials because they can be very reclusive and have quite an attitude, but they’re my favorite type of T. I always see mine sitting at the entrance of her burrow at night, showing off those beautiful gold highlights on her front legs. I also love how she made a “volcano” for the entrance to her burrow.

Asian Fossorials are my favorites!!!! I named my Ornithoctonus aureotibialis Temperance, and ever since the rehouse I haven’t seen her. It’s the same with my Vietnam Blue, but I don’t mind. They’re beautiful tarantulas!!!

Im a bit sad that no one has shown any love for Tliltocatl. They are so much fun to observe, are not shy, tend to not be hair kickers (at least I don’t think I’ve ever seen it unless it was while laying a molt mat, n=~700) Sometimes I even get threat poses ❤

Almost never skip a meal, will tell you when their enclosures are too small or too dry, are hearty as heck and the females live quite a while. They reach respectable sizes and mass.

When you consider how cheap they usually are, it’s quite a bang for your buck.
I just realized that I’ve never had a hair kick or threat pose from my girl Gemma and the verdezi’s are pretty much the same. Always out, always active. When I sexed my T. Albo I jumped for joy cuz she was my first confirmed female😂 they really are just little docile cuties

110%! I got a H.Villosella a few months back thinking "okay I don't hear about these much, seem like cool little guys" and he's become one of my favorites! Has the weirdest webbing ever and awesome personality with a wicked feeding response!
Not sure if the females look that much different but when mine matured male I was really thinking it reminded me of a large wolf spider lol. Just with prettier markings

Nice! I’ve found that if you don’t overfeed them they’ll spend a lot more time at the entrance of their burrows, but they always dive back and hide whenever I try to take the lid off for pictures 🤦‍♂️

Back in January I had to do an emergency rehouse on my C. Dyscolus because of an undetected humidity issue (I think it was the water getting knocked out of the dish when I put it back on the shelf) that caused mushrooms to grow in his enclosure. He ended up alerting me of the invasion by throwing out this tiny white mushroom with a bowl cut, and after setting him up in a critter keeper that he LOVES, I never see him. He is my jar of dirt. I know he’s alive because he’s constantly renovating the tank and making new tunnels, but he doesn’t even come out for dinner. It’s actually hilarious. I don’t think I over feed him either, I genuinely think he just likes his house more then the world outside😂

One of my favorite underrated tarantulas is T. pruriens. They're surprisingly active spiders and have such beautiful green coloration, not something you find very often in tarantulas. She's a mini bulldozer that's constantly renovating her enclosure. They're also extremely food motivated. It's always fun to watch my female take down prey that's nearly her size without hesitation. I also know that several people have had specimens for over 20 years, so they're long lived. I expected her to be a very slow grower, but I was pleasantly surprised. I've had her for about 4 years or so now and she's at least 4in DLS. IMG_20250518_182036695~2.jpg
