i bought some topsoil for my tarantulas after seeing the old timers around here recommend it to people, i’m sick of paying $12 for special dirt

it’s called evergreen and it was the cheapest stuff lowe’s had. i got 2 bags for a dollar each cause they had split open, i figured i could bake it for a little while before using it. reviews had said this is basically shredded mulch and had a bad smell. i don’t smell anything and from looking at it it looks fine to me, from what i’ve read here and on the lowe’s website i think it’ll be good and i’m excited to use it, but does anyone think it’s a bad idea? should i use it for something else?

Call Evergreen and ask what is exactly (forest products?) in it. Doesn't look like soil to me.

i was told it was organic and didn’t have harmful chemicals. she said it had wood ash and sand in it and it wasn’t made to have a whole lot of dirt in it
should i just use it for my plants instead? dirt is dirt, i’ll figure out how to use it somewhere

It will be fine, topsoil is topsoil.

As long as there's no harmful chemicals or manure in it, it'll be fine.

I NEVER buy topsoil with the "organic" label. All soil is inherently organic, when you see this label, its not in reference to the dirt, but the additives...organic additives break down, smell and attract pests.

coming back to this, i found the kind of topsoil you recommend to everyone, earthgro from home depot? a TON of reviews say this stuff is trash, like literally. people got bits of garbage in the bags, or it was just straight chunks of mulch, or muddy water and clay, all sorts of stuff that couldn’t be used. have you had any bad experiences with it? can i have them cut open a bag for me before i buy it or something?

LOL, you simply cannot read reviews on dirt you buy for a t..... literally not a single review you will read is in reference to, or in any way relevant to t keeping....you are reading reviews from horticulturists.....yeah, its bad for growing plants...but its not even marketed for that.

It is generally full of wood chunks and rocks, but that doesnt matter a lick to your tarantula....and if you like, they can easily be plucked out.
