ever fed a goldfish to a T??

What's up just wondering if feeding a goldfish to my sub-adult blondi would be a bad idea. Don't ask why. I'm thinking I sort of need to diversify its diet a bit and all the local pet shop has is crix and fuzzies, and she's not big enough to take on a mouse yet. Thanks.

It doesn't sound like that great an idea to me, but I don't own a T. Blondi. Why not try to find roaches or superworms if you want diversity in it's diet?

I believe goldfish are loaded up with chemicals to withstand their overcrouded conditions. The T would probably eat it, but I wouldn't risk it.

Give your T very large hissers as weekly food and as a treat every other month a small white mouse but the thing with the small white mouse is just my 2 cents as other people on the boards will go nutz over.

gold fish are designed to absorb and cope wih very high levels of aminia, i dont know if this will harm the T, they also live in water that they crap in, i dont know if they would be covered in nasty bacteria

Feeder goldfish are usually loaded with either chemicals or possibly parasites. I have given a bad case of worms to some horned frogs of mine like this. I have heard and seen people feeding goldfish to their T's, but I really don't see the sense in this. The only T I have ever heard of possibly "fishing" is a H. gigas. If you are looking for a bulky food item try a roach. I would shy away from vertebrate prey but thats my opinion and am not trying to start another war here on the boards.

I've seen posts with pictures of tarantulas eating goldfish, and I personally wouldn't do it.

If you had your own aquarium and kept the goldfish in a clean environment for a few weeks before feeding, I think you'd probably be ok, but I still wouldn't do it, at least not with my Ts.

Feeding 1 goldfish isn't worth the risk of losing any of my Ts.

so I tried to do that about three weeks ago and nothing really came of it I had four gold fish in three Ts tanks each T ranged in size from 3"-4.5" I left the goldfish in for 2.5 weeks the Ts had not eaten in a few weeks but nothing happened with the gold fish accept that the G. rosie seemed to like to pull it out and bat it around almost like a cat silly rosie:? . the cobalt and B. smithi didnt touch them I put them in seperate water containers from the T water dish. I did soak the gold fish in fresh water before feeding them to my Ts to get some of the cemicals out

one person on another board fed thier T goldfish and raw mince meat in balls because they couldnt get hold of crix easily, their T eagerly fed on it as soon as it was put in the water dish, but i personally wouldn't do it.

Almost certainly would be. Others have covered the parasites/filth part, but there's also the nastiness of leftovers (bacteria/mold/whathaveyou), and I've heard people say that it makes the tank REEK no matter how quickly you clean up. Assuming your T even recognizes it as food, too.

And then there's the huge thing going on about how that species is particularly sensitive to problems from being fed too much vertebrate prey, but I stay out of that as I don't even own a blondi. I will note that it's possibly a very bad idea to feed even a big bad T a live adult mouse, as those things have teeth and are not afraid to use them (they've killed pythons when being fed live).

Can you not just feed a LOT of crickets, if other bugs aren't an option? I'm genuinely curious about this, as I have an L. parahybana sling myself that should be hitting the big leagues in a couple years or so.
