Greetings

I have not long joined the forum have done some reading through the "search" function (I know!) and have spoken to a few people via conversations.

I just wondered if anybody who is active on here keeps or has previous knowledge of euscorpius species. I'm in the UK so they get imported every now and then as they are found just on the continent, I assume they are possibly quite rare in America?

Regards

Hello,

I've kept a few species of Euscorpius:
E. flavicaudis
E. carpathicus
E. balearicus
E. italicus

Fire away and I'll see if I can answer, or point you to someone else who might help!

Cheers,
George

Hi George

Many thanks for your response :)

These little ones were my first species and I actually really enjoy keeping them, possibly more than my h.longimanus.

Anyway back on track, e.italicus. How did you find pairing them? When they would copulate was it quite quickly after being introduced? Also how seasonal did you find them? I do have an adult male and female. The only other thought is that the female came to me gravid, she does look a little chunky, and under such circumstances would both scorpions show little interest in each other?

Quite sad these aren't kept more commonly great small species to work with. Do you still keep any?

Hi,

Yea, sadly they are quite advanced scorpions when it comes to breeding, hard to get the young to adulthood!

I think mating is similar in most species, though I've only bred E. flavicaudis and E. carpathicus, mating will be very aggressive and be over in under 30minutes in my experience, often with a sexual sting. If the female is running away, like you said she is most likely gravid! The wild caught Euscorpius are nearly always gravid, I used to catch them in the wild and all females have been gravid!

I don't keep any any more, but I often catch them in the summer in Corsica! I've always wanted to go catch some E. flavicaudis in the UK - there is a colony at Sheerness apparently.

I currently have a related genus, Euscorpiops, basically big black Euscorpius which live in rocks/mountains!

Sorry I forgot to mention they came from a couple of breeders who keep their stock communally (eek!)

Did you find pairing would only happen at certain parts of the year?

I believe that the flavicaudis are unfortunately in an area that isn't accessible by the public on a dock yard which is a shame or I would be there in a flash lol.

Wow those euscorpiops look ace what size do they grow to :)

Could be gravid!

The birthing season for my species which were from the Mediterranean was in late august through September. Mating ive observed all year round

Nikos B, a member of these boards will know a lot more about italicus, where do yours originate from?

Awesome. Unfortunately I don't know where these are from originally as they are cb babies born in the UK :)
