The drawer won't kill them. I don't know about the vapors though, I have never used the stuff. My policy is no vapors.

i would much rather error on the side of caution, in a semi-reasonable sense too.

the thing i always get back to is that some of our spiders are going to be 20+ years in our care. that is an INSANELY long time for a little pollution here and a little pollution there to collect in the non-moltig tissues of the spider!

the other thing to consider is that there might be some kind of damage taking place, but no immediately perceptible signs of the damage. something like mercury poisoning in humans takes a long time to be obvious, but once you start manifesting symptoms the damage done is horrible.

you could actually take seran/plastic/cling wrap and make a like, gasket for your drawer to make it more air tight. tarantulas need very little ozygen at all, even when a large size. even if you could make the drawer seal 100% air tight, you still would be fine putting them in there, as long as you opened it once every day or three.

Menthol vapor is toxic to insects and an effective repellent (possible it may have same effect on arachnids). It is used in many non-toxic pesticides.

Eucalyptus oil also has repellent activity and some insecticidal properties.

Its possible they won't harm arachnids or the amount put out by the vapour are below toxic levels for you ts. Though I personally wouldn't risk it.
