Hi there

I might be looking into a Euathlus sp red at some point in the (possibly near) future, and I was wondering if there are any recommended retailers that stock or are able to stock this species, mail order would be ideal.

Regards

can'r recommend Euathlus sp red highly enough but they're hard to get hold of! if you're in the UK i don't think there's any for sale that i'm aware of. I check the sellers i know regularly and haven't seen anything :(

I found a few sellers, but I didn't get the impression they seemed reputable... In any case, I've sent the spider shop an email asking if they're able to stock them. I was wondering if anyone here might know of a decent supplier.

If I can't get a Euathlus, I expect I'll settle for a Brazilian Black, which seem to be quite widely available. But Euathlus would be my No 1 choice, they're gorgeous looking!

I've only just started looking into keeping tarantulas as pets, as I've always fancied the idea and found them to be very interesting creatures. They don't scare me either, so a nice docile one might help me with my mild arachnophobia!

What ones did you find out of curiosity? I've tried TSS, Martin Goss, Virginia Cheeseman and Tarantulas Bristol. ha, i'm after a Brazillian Black too! lots of slings available, gonna give it another couple of weeks to try and source at least a juvenile then if i can't find one, i'll bite the bullet and grab a sling.

Well i was in the same position a year ago and a friend lent me me their Euathlus for a couple of weeks to try and get over the phobia ...now i own 15 T's with five more on the way and a couple of them are old worlds lmao

Somewhere called reptiles plus claims to have them, I can't seem to find the other ones again. I think it was the complete absence of information on the different species that put me off, I'd be more trustworthy of somewhere that goes into detail. Unfortunately though, none of the recommended suppliers I've found so far sell them, some advertise but don't have them in stock :/

I hear that Brazilian Black are also very docile and make for good handlers, that's basically the key thing I'm after if I end up getting one.

They don't actually get anything out of being handled and doing so puts them at risk of injury/death (there many scenarios that can arise from handling that could end up in a dead tarantula, it bites you and you reflexively fling it across the room, it bolts and you drop it etc.).

Also, a tarantula's temperament can change at any time, just because a species is labelled "docile" doesn't mean that's what you'll get.

B. hamorii are supposed to be docile, mine went from being my most docile tarantula (and one of the few I handled back when I was a noob and I thought you had to handle them) to being my nastiest tarantula after a moult, she greets me like this now.

They're more observational pets like fish, if you want to get an exotic pet that you can handle often then you're probably better off getting a corn snake or something like that.

Just looked them up, do they post? That's a pretty good price for them as well (considering everything else is overpriced).

As for reputable sellers, I'll vouch for:

So Many Legs
Portsmouth Tarantulas
Tarantulas Glasgow
Exotic-Pets. co. uk
The Spider Shop (I've had problems with all but two of my orders but everyone else swears by them)

If you're on FB then I can recommend some breeder's private groups.

Point taken, to be honest I find them interesting enough just to watch, I can live without handling them.

I believe they do post.

Since i don't live in the UK i can't provide any important information, i'll just simply add the following statement:

If you find one, you have found a treasure, no collection is even close to complete without one.

They're one of the most beautiful inverts I've seen, apparently I'm not the first one to think they're "cute"...

Do you reckon it's possible someone might be able to order them in? I'm sure somewhere like TSS, which I hear is relatively reliable, might know a few breeders. I've sent them an email, so I guess I should just wait and see.

Do you have a link for tarantulas world? Google brings up spidersworld.eu but I'm not sure if that's the same.

Also, do you know if they're reputable?

yeah that's the same one. I haven't heard anything bad at all about them and i know they only ship when the temperatures are safe enough to do so but i haven't had the chance to buy any animals from them as they wouldnt ship to scotland until spring and i only found out about them in december

Glad you changed your mind about handling @DesertRose ;)

Can vouch for spidersworld as well. Good packing, great service and contact.
They aren't shipping at the moment due to temps but their spiders generally arrive healthy and active.

Not only that, it saves you from the urticating hairs as well ;)
And from picking a spider up from the floor that went splat because it made a run for it.

I'm exactly in ur position too! Really digging to fine one in the UK, contacted TSS Martin Goss and the spiderworld eu and they don't see sp red for a long time, that been said I haven't contact Virginia or Exoticpet.co.uk, but sp red is definitely not on their stock list as far as I observe, I also been visiting some reptile shops include Urban Jungle in Manchester, well, ended up getting an Avic peru purple and a forest scorp;)

And yeah, still searching for it but if u find anywhere may have them pls tell me

As you say they are painfully difficult to find, I've found details of them on Bugz, and Martin Goss, but they don't seem to have been in stock for a while...

I sent TSS an email asking them if they'd ever be able to stock it, from what I hear they're pretty reputable, so I will keep my fingers crossed. Otherwise I'll just keep emailing places asking them if they might be able to order them in or if they know any breeders I can buy directly from.

As I say, I've not had a pet tarantula before, and based on my research, and what people say, they are number 1 on my list for a first T, they look gorgeous!
