I see the males are not that colorfull as the females...
At what stage is it visible they are male? The last molt??

So, it's possible this is a female just by looking to the upper side...?
(i have this spider for a long time, but was never able to sex it...)

I became the adult male yesterday, and never raised an E. murinus male to adult stadium, but I think the sex dimorphismus shows just when the male moult to adult. Like Ps. irminia.

Why not post of Your E. murinus a ventral shot?

I will try that... and i would have tried before, but it's a very mean one...
I know there are burrowers, but mine always sit on the substrate (it made a hole, so the substrate is good). When i open the cage, it start to run and doing treat poses...
Because of its character it's very difficult to look at it's underside...
And, i believe E. murinus aren't big spiders, mine is 12 cm legspan. Kinda difficult to look for something... and it had eat the last molt... :?

With 12 cm legspann it could be also adult I think, they are not that big. My female has a legspann of about 14 cm, the male about 10 cm.

Just use a transparent box... catch the murinus with the box, close it, and from then she (?) can do nothing, and You can sex her. Or make pics at least.

Good news.

Mating today (second try) was also a success. Cross all Your fingers for me... I hope the female won't moult or eat the eggsack.

Made today also videos, enjoy them!

Courtship ~7,9 MB 320x240 px.

Mating ~7,8 MB 320x240 px.

No, I'm glad You posted Your pic, I kinda like it. When was that? When did You mate them? What do You think, how long it will take for the female, until she lays her eggsack?

BTW, check out the two videos! :D

Yeah very nice...I noticed that these mate kind of the same way aboreals do...like Psalmopoeus a little.

They mated two or so weeks ago - I haven't seen the female do anything special yet. I will also be pairing him up with another female once he makes a new sperm web. I heard that this species produces eggsacs pretty soon after mating...+/- 2 months, but that's just what I heard.

Later,

Jake

I really like the dried leaves, it adds a nice touch, I really dig it, LOL. :D I think I'm gonna start doing that too, I'm tired of just having plain peat moss on mine, I tried spreading grass seed to grow grass but didnt workout. nice pics.

Joe, just cut the fresh leaves from the tree, wash them and let them dry out, these are very decorative.

Hey Prizz! I have question. I already mated that male with my female, but it was always very short and I'm not sure if any insertion happened at all. Female looks like she doesn't like it ... :?
She is drumming like hell, but when it comes to real thing... Maybe she is just teasing him .. :embarrassed:

How did it gone with your female ?

Hi Raqua!

Like I wrote earlier, the mating was very exemplary. Shaking of the male was answered allways by the drumming of the female. This courtship took about 15 minutes, the mating was very short, but they mated 2 times, insertion was visible...
