Hello and good morning. I am looking into a 2.5" Grammostola pulchra <edit>. I am looking at either a 12x12x6 or 12x8x8 enclosure. Would the 12x12x6 be a better long term enclosure with the larger surface area?

Thank you for reviewing my post and the helpful knowledge shared here,

Mark

9"x6"x6" (LxWxH) is more than adequate for 2.5" pulchra, at that size it's gonna be moulting once a year and they don't put on much size with each moult so it's gonna be at least a couple of years before you need to rehouse to something bigger anyway.

12x12x6 and 12x8x8 are going to pretty much far too large at 2.5in and sellers always exaggerate sizes so they usually arrive smaller than they list it as, so be prepared for that.

I agree with @The Grym Reaper that size would be better or even smaller like 7x5x6 or on the larger size maximum maybe 8x8x8

Too large. This is two different 2.5” Grammostola’s in an 8” wide x 6” tall enclosure. Plenty big for a long while.

They can molt way faster than that.
OP can either get the enclosure best suited for now or best suited towards the way the enclosure will be decorated.

Speaking of decor, all of my Grammostola have in some way shape or form had blocked hides I’ve created and/or dug up the plant decor. Always makes me chuckle. One day it’s looking spiffy and out of the blue it looks like a construction site.

I’ve got one that blocked off the entrance to its hide and has started a new entrance on the other side. Go figure.

too large, unnecessary, forum has tons of peeps asking the same question

Small boxes for small Ts
Big boxes for big Ts

Crazy idea I know.
