Egg sac care

After months of worries and questions, my pmet finally laid an egg sac. Any tips for caring? how to identify a healthy egg sac, prevention of it getting eaten, and should i feed the momma when she is carrying the egg sac? Thank you for all concern in the last thread

There's not really a way to tell if the sac is good until you open it, but you should be able to see it getting more plump & filling out if the eggs are developing inside. That is if you can really see it at all - a lot of species are good at hiding the sac. The only thing you can really do to prevent the female from eating the sac is avoid disturbing her and the enclosure as much as possible. Do not feed while she's on the sac. Assuming she was conditioned well leading up to dropping the sac, she will be fine without food for a month or 2. Most people will pull the sac from the female at around 28-30 days then put the eggs in an incubator to complete their development to 2i slings. There isn't a breeding report in the forum for P. metallica, but there is one for P. ornata that you might find helpful:

There is only one thing you can do to prevent it from being eaten....and that is to pull it early....otherwise just let mom do her thing.

Also remove the water dish, you dont want her dunking the sac.
