I was looking to find locally sold tarantulas online and found people sale them on E-bay. Is that common? Has everyone ever tried this?

Maybe this is a silly question, sorry if so -.-

I'm pretty sure that eBay doesn't allow the sale of live animals.

Not necessarily a fake ad though, just not adhering to the rules ;) I know people that have bought inverts (not Ts) on eBay.

You're much more likely to find a reputable local seller here on the boards. Just check for reviews before buying.

I did a quick search on eBay and could only find one seller with live tarantulas. They are very overpriced with no live arrival guarantee. The classifieds section here are a better place to start. Craigslist will have the occasional good buy too.

Like others said, the arachnoboards classifieds is one of, if not the best place to buy and sell inverts.

craigslist is all ever scams I ever get.
Yeah, its good here on the classifies but I have no bank account. Most people ask for paypal, which I don't have. I just borrow a card and pay the person back.

i would definitely check out the dealers page here...i've personally bought from swift's inverts and jamies tarantulas with very positive results, as well as a couple of breeders from the forums.

Ebay has a classifieds section that hosts pets (and other craigslisty stuff) for sale in your area.

I've seen them too, in fact was researching it yesterday. I'm certain it's against the rules, but they are not listed as "Strictly prohibited" on the ebay rules. I suppose unless someone flags the auctions and reports them, they will stay up. The prices are hideously high.

I have found some super deals on CL, and some that I've passed right on by. There is one up on CL in my local area now for about triple the price of the T and tank combined.

I simply do not understand why people run out and by a 200 dollar tank for a 20 dollar spider.

You should try and check out local reptile shows. Most have a decent selection of inverts as well.

eBay is very vague on their information concerning the selling of live animals. From the way I read their guidelines, tarantulas would not be allowed, as it says: "...pets and most other live animals can't be listed..." and in their listing of restricted critters, there is no mention of Ts. One thing they do say about the shipping of live animals is the seller needs to do the following: "Guarantee that the animals will be shipped safely and sent by overnight shipping." One seller got a negative feedback because one of the slings he mailed out arrived dead. Not only is it a bad idea to buy a T off eBay, but I would also caution anyone against following the care sheets. I didn't look at them, but I also don't know where he got them from.
