where do you get these opportunities? I've been looking for P.vulpinus for a while.
It was supposed to be for an import coming from Poland. Besides them not surviving in captivity, another reason why I declined is I found out that most if not all of these Chilean species that have recently surfaced came from egg sacs that have been collected in the wild.

Got the info from a hobbyist in Chile who's big on trying to breed these species in captivity and various people who were big on importing species from Chile before it was closed

is it that polish spidershoppe website? they always seem to have outlandish sp from parts of the world that should be impossible.

what issues is the chilean fellow having with them in capitivity? Sling mortality, breeding issues, etc

Isn’t spidershoppe in USA
I think he mentions some of the issues with these guys in captivity here

most of the p scrofa that have been sold in the past havent been Phrixotrichus but instead Thrixopelma or Euathlus , idk if thats something that has changed in recent times.

as for the spidershoppe, there is going to be more than one place named spidershoppe in the world lol.

Oh sorry. I thought it was just here lol. I did notice that when I look it up on google it was completely different then the pictures linked in the wsc. I must say that the one I saw was very beautiful. It’s like the p vulpinus but had this copper metallic carapace I think it was a mature male.

Everything lol for years, he's never had them successfully produce and all of them just die eventually slings, juveniles, adults, etc.

Perhaps it’s that they rely on that certain ecosystem down to the microbe. Just not meant for a tank. Really is unfortunate there so beautiful.

Sometimes 1st generation CB are not hardy enough and it takes a few generations before they become established enough to be hardy.

Forgot to mention, when the P. vulpinus slings popped up I contacted the guy in Chile

I can't post a screenshot of our conversation because I don't have permission so I'll quote what he told me instead lol

When I saw the P. vulpinus slings surfaced recently in the market I asked him if they finally had a breakthrough with them and could that be the reason of the sudden surge of slings. This is what he told me:

"Keeping the species in captivity still sees no success and breeding them seems to be a fool's errand for now. So no, there is no captive bred Phrixotrichus vulpinus or any phrixotrichus species for that matter."

For me it's more about availability than price, and my unwillingness to support brown boxing. But some species

Ones you can't really get currently:
Poecilotheria rajaei
Psalmopeus sp alquitran
Pachistopelma bromelicola
Ornithoctoninae sp Vietnam silver
Eucratoscelus pachypus
Munduruku bicoloratum

Ones you can get but are pricy and/or rare:
Ornithoctoninae sp Hon sej
Pachistopelma rufonigrium
Harpactira chrysogaster
Davus sp Panama
Typhlochaena sp
Neoholothele fasciaaurinigra
Euathlus sp hermosa
Dolichothele rufoniger

For herps- my long term goals are Gila Monster and Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman
I question the morality of keeping something like a dwarf caiman in captivity. For me, tarantulas usually set up shop somewhere and just wait for prey, so I dont really mind keeping them in captivity. Plus theyre inverts, who cant really think. The alligators here in Florida have a spot they usually hang out in, however youll see them swimming all over and traveling around wherever they want. Id imagine dwarf caiman do the same, and I dont know if most normal people have the means to produce a habitat suitable for them that isnt morally questionable.

where do you get these opportunities? I've been looking for P.vulpinus for a while.
Why would you bother attempting to keep a species that notoriously doesnt do well in captivity?
