I just had to share this amazing story.

My daughter has this little cat (she just tiny, about 5lbs soaking wet) that loves her dearly! This cat follows her everywhere and sleeps with her and just adores my daughter.
Sunday night we get a call from a stranger. He says he found our cat in the road(she wears an ID collar). She had been hit by a car. She was still alive but very hurt. We rushed to where she was. The people had pulled her off of the road so she wouldnt be hit further. She was laying on her side with her mouth wide open panting really fast. I knew, KNEW she was toast. So we wrapped her in a towel and took her home to die. She didnt die.. so I took her to an emergency vet thinking the whole time, she will die any minute.. she looks horrible. Cant walk, breathing horribly, not very conscious.
So the doc looks at her and says.. No broken bones!! I was like
Ended up that she got hit in the head!! So she had a doozy of a concussion. They kept her overnight and put her on anti inflamatory drugs. I picked her up the next morning and Ill be darned if shes fine now!!
Shes terribly sore.. walks like, well, like she got hit by a car!
We call her our Pet Road Kill now hehe RK for short.

Its amazing what animals can survive!! Id like to hear anybody elses amazing animal survival stories!

When I'm driving Im always looking for animals in the road. One day I see a snake writhing around and i thought it was in its death throws. It was a cornsnake that got run over by a car. Its bottom jaw was 90 degrees from its top jaw, and blood was coming out of its mouth. I was going to put it out of its misery but when i picked it up it straighten its jaw out. I put it down in the bush and it had concertina motion but would roll on its side.
So I took it home and force fed it after a week and it progressively got better. After a month it ate a thawed mouse. That was in 1999 and I still have her and take her to presentations.:)

My sister had a kitten that got out one morning and crawled up in the engine block of her boyfriends pickup truck. He didn't know and drove away. The kitten fell out and got hit by the truck about two blocks away, people found him and called SPCA.

Kitten (Milo) was taken to a vet and treated for head injuries. Long story short, my sister found out where he was taken and got him back. He was pretty badly hurt and to this day is a bit mentally handicapped. But he's alive!

Glad to hear your kitty is okay!

man I got abunch but I wont take up the thread lol.

My mom was a vet tech and one day she comes home with this one eyed siamese cat. She said he got hit by a truck awhile back and somebody brought him in to be euthanized. His face was crushed his eyeballs were hanging out, he was a mess. The vet decided to try and save him as a challenge. They reconstructed everything and long story short, aside from being alittle wacky in funny way, he was the best cat ever. he loved to go on walks like siamese do.

OMG, MICHELLE!!!!!!
First - you cannot name her RK...we already had one named RK. (short for road kill)
We got OUR RK when he was a small kitten and he ran out in the road from a ditch; right into our 4x4 wheel hub, at 60mph! We thought we'd killed him..but no-no!! I immediately stripped off my sweater (in Michigan's November) and wrapped him in it and took him to our family vet...in my bra.
He lived a long healthy life of 19 years..... The smartest house cat you ever met. Guaranteed....hehehehe
So glad your girlie's friend made out ok.

Really cool the cat made it! I have a few stories. I hit a big, blond/cream colored bat in Texas. I got out and peeled it off my bumper. I still don't know what kind it was, very different than the common smaller ones around here. It flew away the next day. When I was a kid, we had a cat survive the clothes drier, ..and two more that didn't. My mom would put clothes in there and leave the door open all day. She would shut the door not knowing the cat was taking a nap in there. And when I was a kid we had a dog that got hit by a car, it walked on it's front legs a lot after that(a poodle). About 20 years ago, I caught a gray-banded kingsnake in w tx that had just gotten it's head run over. It lost an eye and it's tongue but it got healthy enough to eat and was fine after that.

I was out running around with a few buddies one night and a hit a rabbit. It wasn't dead and really just seemed a little stunned, so I ignored my friends recommendation to " just back up over it and let's go!" and drove around the rest of the night with it in my lap.
When I got home, I set it in the yard, and it hopped off, seemingly no worse for the wear, I must have just grazed it.

Incidentally, I heard that in Texas, any road kill that you see is definitely dead, because anything still alive gets up and moves in a hurry before a certain blonde lady comes along and saws off its head.;)

OK, ...who's the headhunter? I've done stuff like that before. One time I picked up fresh kill skunk, took it home and skinned it. I never could get rid of the smell though. It was many years ago when I was a teenager living with my parents. I tried to hide the body in my parents freezer in a bunch of trash bags next to my sister(just kiddin:D ) but I got caught. But, it didn't surprise them as much as I thought it would:eek: .

You'd think your mom would have caught on after the first or second time... Jeez louise.

Even after the first time! Hmm, maybe she just didn't like those cats. We kids have made fun of her enough over the years, she cried. The last time it happened, my dad said he pulled the cat by the tail and it just came off. A horrible way to go, just horrible! I mean, superficially, with no sensitivity, it can be humorous in a twisted way but it is absolutely a horrible thing that happened, but it did.

Any time you hit an animal it is normally a bad idea to back over it and put it out of its "misery". A lot of animals are to shocked from being hit to move and some of them are fine. If you're not sure it doesn't hurt to check unless you're on a freeway or somthing . . .
