Does anyone else get excited by new feeder bugs?

I like how you keep them in a more natural setup. Looks really nice. Why shouldn't we enjoy them as well! As a just in case, if you are cleaning out that stuff at some point, strongly suggest bagging it and putting into a very hot fire to avoid eggs etc escaping :)

Yeah. I generally do partial changes on the insect and isopod enclosures rather than changing everything at once (to avoid disrupting the microorganisms and springtails), and I put the old substrate in a bag in a chest freezer for a few days before disposing of it.

I started doing it this way, because I thought empty containers with egg crates looked boring 🤣

And I primarily keep my feeder colonies for fun, rather than needing to maximize output per space, so it works well.

Hah! The recent heat wave had all my tarantulas metabolisms ramped up.

Two of them molted and their fangs haven't hardened yet, and the other five all seem to have gone into premolt simultaneously. So haven't been able to give any of the roaches to them yet 🤣
That's what happens with my older ones.
