The only time I’ve handled my tarantulas is when I’m rehousing them and they run and I don’t get them with the catch cup and they fall off the table so I catch them, it’s only happened twice

Although I agree with the bottom half of your post, just because someone posted something on FB doesn't make them a moron. I post photos and feeding videos on FB, doesn't make me a moron. But I will say a vast majority in the groups on there don't practice the best husbandry.

I may have stereotyped a little but that's my opinion and like buttholes we all have one.

As long as you are true to yourself and choose to use FB, fair play to you.

In my experience of it though, it causes more harm than good so have not been on it several years.

I actually deactivated mine around two weeks ago. Good for you for not using it, it's mostly just draining people's brains. And yes, buttholes are everywhere lol

I am afraid to do it but I really enjoyed watching this video. Show me how you touch your spiders if you are not afraid to do so. I don’t touch any of mine as I’m really scared.

Just don’t. T’s aren’t meant to be handled as it is dangerous for you and the spider.

The only time I ever handle mine is once after every molt (usually 1-2 months after they’ve molted) to see how large she has grown since her last time she molted


I think I’ve only handled my b. boehmei about 3 times in my almost 1 year of keeping her

Me personally I don't attempt to handle anything I keep. My avic has a strong feeding response when she is sitting out so I do not put my hand in her enclosure if she's out.

The rest of my spider's will put a beast of a hurt on you if bit.

It's pretty dumb to pet a tarantula, as they don't understand what you're doing. I'm fine with handling if done sparingly but petting implies emotion and a shared bond, and tarantulas are capable of neither.

It's cool that you love your spiders, but don't expect them to love you back lol.

I don't handle most of my collection. Literally because I will probably end up in the hospital if I tried. I have nasty arboreals, Earth Tigers, Baboons who are willing to attack tongs for no reason. Handling that kind of animal is asking for trouble.

I have handled some of my calmer T's, but only to move them for maintenance or if they decide to bolt, I will allow them to "hide" beside a cupped palm and then transfer them back in. I don't think I will ever attempt to pinch grab any specimen.

That's the extent of my handling. I wouldn't suggest you do anymore than the bare necessity as handling is of no benefit to your T at all.
