Nice enclosures Warpig! It's nice of you to give advice to those who are thinking about doing this. All anyone has to do is see your enclosures and knows you know what you are talking about. But from someone who builds their own enclosures - and is a plastics engineer... Warpig is 100% correct on everything he has said.

A Q. here, who says you need those vents at all???

I drilled roughly 40-50 holes with a template in my enclosures (didn't count), I have kept two $600.00 female P metallicas in them for over a year and they haven't dropped dead and have molted twice in them, I keep a beautiful A vesri female, she just molted for the second time in her enclosure a few days ago, no problem, I have another 10 large gals in them for over a year no problem. My P irminia gave me a nice sac in it no problem.

My Q. is whats the obsession with these vents? Where/what source(s) says they are the end all to perfect ventilation?

I'm not buying those vents just to say hey my enclosure now cost more and looks just like yours.

And yeah, mine still cost alot less, and I have an unobstructed view, no vents get in my way of looking at the T's from any angle.;P

The 2" RS -100 screened Louvre here are
http://www.mflouver.com/ps_round_aluminum_louvers_2.asp

$12.20 per dozen.
For larger enclosures I'm actually eyeballing the The RS-100 3” @ 17.56 per dozen.

You don't need seven 2" vents on an 8x8x16 cage. 4 or 5 would do the job nicely.
For a 12x12x18 I'm thinking 5, 3" vents, but 4 would be sufficient.
I must be incompetent. I can find neither the price nor any way to order from that site. Their "about" information says they provide service for hardware suppliers & oems. I don't think they'll even sell to me as an individual?

As for whether you "need" the vents or not, it doesn't matter if what I'm asking is how to make a "clone" for $25. The tarantulacages cage has 7 vents. If you make one with 4 vents, it's not really the same. I agree with WARPIG in that you can just drill holes which are free. You can also use a 10 gallon aquarium with 1/8" acrylic lid and be around $15-$20, but that's really not the same cage. The only statement I take exception to is that you can build the "same" cage for $25. When we start making changing it to use cheaper components because the more expensive ones aren't "needed" it is no longer the same cage.

Yep :)
I brought up the vents mainly to illustrate that their inclusion need not equate to an expensive cage.

I'm including them because they're cheap enough, easy to install, and look clean.

My comment about not needing 7 vents was an aside from your "cloning" requirement. If you do the math you'll see that you can cram 10 vents in there if you want and still spend significantly less.

I emailed the company for pricing.

I'll point you back up to my first post on the subject where I quoted louvre and acyclic figures.
Aside from that, you're getting hung up on the "$25 figure and missing the point.

Even if it cost you $35 you're still saving a ton, and that was the whole point.

Fortunately I have no need to clone anything, I am quite satisfied with my inexpensive enclousures. 6"x6"x12" is all I need.

I will help anyone who asks in building their own enclosures. I urge anyone who is handy to give it a try. Its not rocket science and I bet you will feel better building your own than having someone else build it for you.

If your not handy, as I stated earlier, and you want an acrylic enclosure then by all means pay someone to build it for you, but you're gonna pay.

I am with warpig ,I dont care about the vents , I am simply looking for a square acrylic container,or advice on how to make my own without spending hundreds ,and thousands of dollars on the homes that my Ts are living in ,it simply does not make sense to pay more for the Ts home than what the T cost its simple economics, and I am getting alot of good advise here so I will be going to walmart to purchase some tools ,I think we should keep this thread going ,WARPIG YOUR ENCLOSURES ARE AWESOME and you are right on point in my oppinion.   :worship: :worship: :worship:

I'm building mine from wood (sealed with clear epoxy) with acrylic doors and top.
Something a bit different.

And this I'll agree with. At the end of the day how much you can build a clone for is not relevant. How much you can build what you actually want for is. In fact, I imagine given the option to customize things most people would prefer something that's not a clone. It allows you to build cages larger or smaller to your tastes. With dimensions that will fit your custom built shelves or whatever.

Exactly..........
But I do maintain that if you're going to say "I can build the same for X" the statement is kind of pointless, unless you actually want to build the same. Better to say "I built this for X".

I am learning alot about my question, and its coming down to this,if you want to go out and blow a bunch of money on the latest acrylic enclosure thats cool, but if you make your own acrylic enclosure thats not in but its ok,well I would rather make my own and spend the money on all the beautiful Ts that are availuable, and that are becoming availuable, thats what this hobby is all about not the latest and greatest million dollar container to put them in WARPIG to me yours are hands down the best ,they dont look sterile like alot of the others, they were created like art, lets keep this thread going I am learning alot and thats what its all about.

Thanks, my next project is to convert some 5 and 10 gallon tanks into seamless tanks. If you know anything about fish tank displays, you would fall in love with european tanks which do not have the plastic molding around the top and bottom.

To that end, I bought a plumers torch, and I intend to take the plastic retainers off by heating them till the adhesive melts. Then I plan on removing one end of the tank and replacing it with wire mesh. Next I will add a glass substrate retainer and a glass door.

The reason that I want an all glass tank is strictly for looks and practicality. Its eaisier to clean glass and it won't haze with years of exposure.

I plan on completing a few within a couple of weeks.
I'll post pics when done.

PIG-
PIG,

Just wondering if you ever got around to creating these seamless tanks. They sound great... one thing I can't picture though is what kind of wire mesh you would use.
