Hi,

the only Avicularia species I have seen kicking hairs so far – respectively brushing with the hind legs over the top rear of her opisthosoma – is Avicularia versicolor. But I have seen this behaviour only very few times, when I have "stressed" the spider.

Who want's to go deeper in this topic:
  • BERTANI, R. & VUOLO MARQUES, O. A. (1995/96): Defensive behaviors in Mygalamorph spiders: release of urticating hairs by some Aviculariinae (Areneae, Theraphosidae). Zool. Anz. 234: 161-165.
all the best,
Martin

Hey Code, getting hit by monkey s**t probably hurts a little more, I'd take the Avic first, LOL!
