I found this small diving beetle the size of 1mm. There's 2 of em. They have a brown back and shiny iridescent green head. I can't seem to find anything like em. :/

Anyone know the species? And what to feed it?
-----
Actually they look like a toe bitter. Miniature toebiter. But it has green head, and brown body. It has the form of a diving beetle. Except it has those long pincers like the toebiter. They're small. but they look sharp, like for injecting something.

They maybe a nymph? since they look like em but small.

I think they killed a few scuds I had in the small container since they are dead, but they didn't eat them.....
------
Iam going to go for more bug hunting later this week. :D

Thanks guys I'ved learned alot from here. Iam just posting this question because I cannot seem to find a picture exactly like these 2fellas. I wonder if its a new species..................

It would help if you could post a picture. It's hard to wrap your head around something that looks like a beetle but also a hemipteran at the same time. :?

Was this what you were talking about? http://bugguide.net/node/view/324784/bgpage
or this? http://bugguide.net/node/view/216103/bgpage

It looks like the creeping water bug persay. Just not the red eyes. I couldn't take a decent picture. The insect is too small for a phone camera to work on.
Though it looks alot like t he creeping water bug that was found on del. Except its brown is darker colored-slightly. No red eyes.

looks exactly like this

Same one I guess. lol

There's very little info on them. Wonder how common they are, and where I can find more detailed info on them. lol

Doing more research on it. They are commonly found throughout eastern us. Very little data has been recorded on them according to a few web pages.
-----------
Makes me curious as to what other water bugs I can find in nj. lol. They were found underwater, under rocks. 1water bug per rock. Not all rocks had em though. Just a few. Only found 2. lol.

Well so far as I learnt. They feed on small aquatic inverts. Therefore I should start breeding small insects. maybe ill get daphnea. Wonder if they'll take frozen foods. lol. Probably not. Though I do have frozen brine shrimp, and blood worms.

They killed the scuds, but never ate them. I assume the scuds were too big for the bugs. They must be hungry though.

Not able to find much on their lifespan---nothing at all to be honest.

Nor nothing on the tank size. Currently a small jar is what Iam using. Ill upgrade it to a critter keeper.

Still Ill have to do more search on insects later. Ill start collecting more jars, and label them for later knowledge. Getting more organized will help me remember the names, and such. Ill get a sticky pad.

Maybe it did eat. I did find a dead minnow the other day when I had the bugs in the fish tank. ;c and it does say they feed by sucking out the juices of the animal.

Try tong feeding anything that they can physically grasp. Pond predators will leave a mess, no matter what. Replacing the water every week or so is usually enough. If you're on city water, let it sit overnight before adding your 'lil buddies.

I've kept diving beetles that were more than willing to eat frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp.

Thanks both of you. I will try and use small tweezers to feed them. I wonder if they'll take pellets made for turtles. xD Now that'd be a miracle. lol
