Hello,
I just acquired a D. spitzeri and I'm wondering about their care and how to sex it. I haven't been able to find much on them. The friend that caught "him" for me says they love to dig/burrow and to keep it moist. But I'd love to know more. How big/deep of an enclosure should I use? How big of a water dish? Is the one he sent male or female? What are their lifespans? I know male tarantulas live shorter than females, but I don't remember it being true for scorps when I had my emperor scorps... are they communal given a large enough enclosure? Any info or advice would be appreciated.
I also got two new tarantulas, so now I have 4- a B. albopilosum, A. chalcodes, and the B. emilia and B. boehemi I just got.
I've been on this forum before but it's been years since I've been on, and I believe it was associated with my old email I no longer have access to as I couldn't log in. I've had a lot of tarantulas in the past, but never been a fan of scorps, though the one I got intrigued me. I know they stay small, around 2"? Anything else I should know?
I'm going to try to add pics of my new little one, but I don't know if it'll work. 20200415_124159.jpg 20200415_124319.jpg

This his temporary enclosure until I can get a deeper container:

He went straight for the bark and made himself right at home.

While I don't know a ton about this species, I'd say give it at least a couple inches of substrate it can burrow into, and mostly importantly, a few pieces of bark that it can hide under in case it doesn't feel like burrowing or wants to start a burrow under on of those pieces. Even if it doesn't have a burrow it'll at least have a couple places where it can feel safe. I don't think you'll need a huge enclosure for it, but definitely something you can fit at least a couple inches of substrate into. I'm thinking something like an empty plastic pretzel or cheese ball jar filled maybe 1/4-1/2 with substrate?
