Hi

Woke up this morning to find my pokie curled and crispy

Had been displaying out of character bits and pieces but was about ready for a molt I would have said

I removed her from cage and found her like this

Many help to avoid this in the future

I should have noted that the picture shows a scab at her back end and one spinner tucked under !!! So sad I just hope this was not poor husbandry

Sorry for you're loss. Attach pictures of the entire setup and someone will help you with husbandry. The photos of you're T though, that has been dead for weeks. It has started to decompose.

Can u offer any help as to what the scab on her bottom is ?

She seemed to he alert ish yesterday? I moved her enclosure and she wanted a leg up a bit? Do you think the scab on the back is decomposition ? Or a cause of death ? I will attach setup photo when home !! Many thanks

That's not a scab, it's decomposition. I know from experience, I tried to keep an old male P Metallica when he died and got it way wrong, and that's exactly how he started to decompose. The abdomen started to fold in on itself, looking like a sore of some sort.

Edit:
Some back story from my experience. When it died I decided I would freeze dry for preservation, but thought I would pin it 1st as to keep it in the position I wanted. So I pinned it, then got called out to work, I can remember thinking I need to do that when I get home, but forgot, anyway around 2 weeks later it clicked, I ran to check, and it was much worse than yours but had been sitting out with minimal humidity, and had started to collapse in at the abdomen with a sore simmilar but worse than yours. That's my reason for thinking this is already decomposing.

Sorry for your loss. It’s possible something fed on it if there were live feeders.

The best way I determine decomposition is the smell…you can’t miss it. I’ve noticed it about 24 hours after death, with a slight sour smell leading up to the 24 hour mark. Visually you can usually see a depression in the last half of the abdomen.

Heat can speed up decomposition. Drastically. I can still make out the pattern on the abdomen so I would say it’s somewhat fresh.

If this little one was walking around 24 hours ago and visually appeared fine, I personally wouldn’t rule out injury or abdominal rupture, even a cyst that ruptured….or being eaten by a live feeder. Their blood doesn’t clot…and that wound does look wet.
