Had an Emperor die on me this morning. He has been listless for a week or so, he did not burrow or hide, and barely moved. I think it was molting. The humidity was around 80% and the heat 85 degrees, so I dont know what the prob was. He was big, so maybe it was just old age.

If he's old then he wasn't molting. Was he fully grown?

Probably old age or natural causes.

Sorry to hear that it died. I've had 2 die on me so far in 2 years. :(

Pet store emperors are likely wild caught (WC) and are already adults (adults will not moult, emps moult 6 or 7 times to reach adulthood) An emp will reach adulthood in 2 to 3 years and a captive emp can live as long as 8 years (so I've read)

A WC store bought emp is likely an adult, and is likely 4 or more years old already, so once they catch them, pack and ship them, they rarely live longer than 1 to 2 years, some may live longer.

A good practice is to purchase captive bread (CB) scorpions, you can have a better idea of how long it will live with proper care.

Search the classifieds here or ask around, but search first.
