I'm not find much on this spider on google. Was wondering how big do they get and do they keep there colors as adults? Also are they readily available on the market or pretty rare?

I own a lone 4+ inch adult female.. Her base color is black and she is heavily patterned with whiteish yellow stripes running up her legs.. Her carapace is dark umber and her opithstoma is a base color of mustard with a jet black blotched line running down the middle. Light black lines bisect that line down both sides of the opithstoma and in the middle of those lines is light black thick crescents.

She is absolutely gourgous and one of my favorite Tarantulas..

She is also very calm for a cyriopagopus ( sweet Jesus Haplopelma rolls of the tongue so much better, damn taxonomic revision:rage:)..

Many people have described there's as defensive but compared to lividus, vonwirthi and minax ( all of which I have owned) albostriatum are very calm.. In the year or so that I have had mine I recieved one threat display and some slapping on one occasion during a rehouse..
Now mind you I rehoused her three times in this year first when I recieved her, packed her up for a move and then moved her from the transport cup to the enclosure she is in now.. It was this last time that she got a bit defensive..
After 1700 miles of driving I was pretty pissy myself so I can't blame her;).. I have two friends that own this species as well and there experience with them is the same as mine.. They describe them as rather calm..which is odd because the consensus from the community is that they are just as flighty and defensive as the rest of the Genus..

Clearly I need to get more so that I can see if I and my friends just got lucky and recieved all the known calm specimens :troll:...

I hear there are three different localitys..From what I gather each is different in size and coloration. From my understanding the main form is from Thailand and that's the locality I have.. I have seen others labeled dark form albostriatum that look similar just much darker almost chocolate colored with a very muted muddy pattern. As far as variations and localitys that's about all I know and I'm not stating it as fact.. It's just my understanding..

As for availability I would say they are a little hard to come by as I don't see them often or hear of many in collections..I had to buy mine as an import so I don't think much is being done with them as far as captive breeding.. I have never seen a male or known anyone with a male..

I love this species though so if anyone with a male is reading this PM me I'll buy him now..
I would love to make this species more available and captive bred! ( I hate having to buy imports):vomit:..

As far as care goes they like it cool.. If temps go much above low 80s my girl will seal off her burrow in effort to keep the hot air out.. When kept in the low to mid 70s the burrow is open and I occasionally catch her half out of her burrow hunting.. I've never seen her out roaming though.. Keep the substrate moist and deep with good ventilation and your good to go.. Very easy species to keep..

Get one if you have the chance and the experience..You won't be disappointed :)

First, awesome imformation! Thanks

Here is where I am at. I found a 3.5" for $115 before shipping. So I'm probably looking at $150. I love that it is a female. I hate not knowing how old it is and how much longer she has to live. I'm also not sure if $115 is a good price. It sounds like it is for a female of that size. What do you think?

Also I didn;t know there was a species change to Haplopelma. I guess thats why I couldn't find much info. Everything kept coming up Haplopelma. I'm going to research more into them now.

115 is too high IMO considering what I see them listed at when they are available, 60-80 is more reasonable.. Would I pay it to have another female.. Yea probably..

Yes it used to be Haplopelma now it's cyriopagopus..

Can you point me in the direction of where the 60-80s are? I'm ready to pop on buying the female, but I'd like to see what other ones are out there.

Edit: I just realized you said "when avaliable"..

....and the same with my Cyriopagopus schioedtei it's now call an Omothymus, I wish they'd make up their minds - it's so confusing especially when you're searching for exact care info.

It makes me nervous. I see some videos of some really beautiful Females and then I see some that I don't think I would pay 30 for. The picture showing of the T for sale is stunning, but it says its just a picture of the species and not the actual one. Of coarse websites are going to post the best looking picture they can find. I'd hate to get one that it really lacking all the markings on the abdomen when I see some videos out there that convince me that 150 is no big deal..

If you know for sure the breeder/seller has described them as "pure bred" - always ask that "important" question, "...are these pure bred specimen." If the seller/breeder is a reputable seller he'll be honest with you, then you can check on this forum - there are hundreds of reviews left by customers and breeders alike, IME it's always important to contact the seller and ask questions with correct tarantula vocabulary - such as what instar, male/female, MM, MF, were the parents wild caught, are they inbred, brother and sister, 2nd generation bred, questions like these , make the seller realise they're not dealing with a noob, always research the breeder/seller, it's the best advice I can give if you want pure bred species.

You're most welcome, welcome to AB and this wonderfully addictive hobby....
Thanks! I wish this site had an app. It would be so much easier then having to google it every time I want to check updates on my phone. I'll survive though.
