Well I had the evil petco order me a 3" Cyclosternum fasciatum\ Costa Rican Tigerrump for $23.99. So yesterday I was in the area and I knew the reptile shipment comes in on Fridays, so i stopped in to check the little guy out. I'm looking at the two new G. roseas they got in, and one pink toe, when they ask me if I would check the temperment of the new G roseas. So I reach in to pick the rosie up and something catches my eye, it is the C fasciatum in the fangs of the rosie! So I chase the rosie away(no easy task), to find two large fang wounds in its carapace. I am now trying to figure out how this happened, I know they all know not to put the tarantulas together. Well the culprut is a poorly made tank divider that they were using to save space (shakes head in disappointment).

Back to the C fasiatum. I was standing there trying to get some sort of adhesive to stop the hemo loss, and of corse they have nothing of use, so I have to improvise and use a piece of paper towel to try and clog the holes. I am now telling them about setting up a ICU, and get the go ahead to go in the back room and set it up myself, and I did.

So does this little guy have a chance in heck of making it? It had shown some symptomatic sighns from the venom, back legs not functional, slightly lethargic. It didn't loose a whole lot hemolymph so I know that was not a major issue. Well I'm going back today and if the little "guy" is still alive then I will buy it, and even if it does die after I buy it atleast I will have a 15 day guarantee.

Surely you can get it cheaper for being 'damaged goods' can't you?

My male a.avicularia got bitten in the abdomen, the breeder put some 'glue' on it, sealed the wound and he was fine, bar a bit of missing hair. I'd photo it but sadly the spider died a few weeks back (un-related tot he wound, it was old)

If i was you I'd try and get the spider in your care for free, pet shops only care about selling them half the time.. you'll go back tomorow and it'll be in the freezer due to some goon thinking the tub it was in contained potato salad

Hope that helps, good luck with it

They wanted to give it to me for free, but being a big company they have rules and polices. If it dies they get to write it off as a doa and don't have to take a loss, if I take it then we have shrink and it is a pure loss.

i work at petco as an animal specialist, and this is just another terrible story ive heard about different stores. heres the deal, its company policy that any damaged animal not be sold, but you should be able to adopt it for free. however if they dont follow company policy and let you buy it, you are indefinately allowed a 10% discount for it being damaged. that being said id try to talk them into letting you have it free or at cost. and to think my store manager wont even let me have anything but the one rosehair we have:mad: .

its also company policy that "animals come first." since ive been there no animal has been left to such a death. my manager writes them off doa, then sends them home with me where they recover and lead a happy life with good husbandry needs. i would talk to the gm about setting such a deal up for you;) .

Well not to come to thier deffense but this was just a simple mistake learned the hard way. They take wonderful care of there inverts and reptiles, and always fix any problems anyone comes to them with. As for the inventory, I do so much bussness there they let me view the inventory list and will special order anything I ask them to.

Listen. They ordered that tiger rump for YOU. They didn't take the proper precautions to ensure that you got it in healthy condition. As far as I am concerened, the spider is yours -- at no cost.

Jon

PS. I didn't know that Petco would make special orders. I'm surprised that they would sell a tiger rump so inexpensively. The ones out here in Vegas, try selling common pink toes for 25 -- seemanis too. I would have thought that a tiger rump would have been a lot more in a petstore.
