Are there any large centipede species that are just a jet black color as adults? I already think G.pulchra (tarantula) are eye-catchers because they do make me think of Halloween (maybe because most the fake ones are black?). Now I want to see some pitch-black centipedes; I saw a few on Google with pale legs. Any species come to mind?

:) anything close for a dark rich centipede would be a "Tiger Legs" subspinipes sp.

Actual S. viridicornis is a black / pink banded centipede. Not completely black. Steven actually has pics of S. viridicornis posted on the forum some where. GREAT looking pede!

There is also the S. gigantea "black" morph as well. These were marketed as S. viridicornis last time they were available.

Ethmostigmus sp. "Button Island Giant Black" look awesome though! I really wish the last Indo shipment went through with those guys!

Here's some links to a few pics of each of the above...

:wall::eek::barf::}:eek:

all this time I thought I owned a viridicornis when it was really black morph gigantea.:wall:

@ragnew
when I used to import(it was getting super expensive) I would occasionally get Button Island blacks(2or 3 per import)or some species extremely similiar.These centipedes would be more available if more people showed interest in centipedes.Unfortunately most people are into T's and scorps and don't really care if centipede are imported or not.

First of all, I think pedes are more popular day by day. The hobby has incresed a lot the last years. Give it time!:)

In other hand, there is also black pedes but no whole black, like S. cingulata, Scolopendra sp."tiger legs", black gigantea, dark galapagoensis, S. viridicornis ( doubtfull specimen picture is running in the net)...

Also, acording "Button Island Giant Black" I continue thinking it is Scolopendra sp. because it looks like to have triangular spiracles in the picture.

Cheers

@super-pede : Man, I sure do wish such was the case today. I'd love to have one of these guys in the collection. But it seems doubtful in my eyes. The hobby, where my area is concerned, has taken a huge downward spiral. You're right when you say no-one cares about a pede any longer. My local shops have all but stopped carrying them completely. But if you're going to be sitting on the animals forever, I can see why they'd opt out of carrying them. Too bad though.

@Androctonus_bic : Man, I wish I could say the same within the place that I live. The centipede hobby seems to be disappearing altogether here. It's definitely not getting more popular day by day. If anything, it's going exactly the opposite direct.

Regardless of species, I'd love to have a few of the "Buton Island Blacks"! :D

Awen... though a nice picture, that is a millipede. A nice one at that. Post it under another new post with "Millipede picture" or something like that as a title and that should be great.
