I have a young C. coccineus and I'm wondering at what point will I know if it's a female or not. I also noticed that you took your photos on carpeting or something. Is that spider handleable or is it just not fast enough to be able to evade capture...???

I still don't know exactly how to sex those. I bought it as a female from a friend, and I belive him :)

They are strictly not handable! The specimen on the photo is 7 hours after the moult. I should have wrote it at the begining of my topic...

Hi,

if you should have any doubts about the sex of the pictured specimen: definitely female.

Not handable? Depends just on your speed.... :D

Amused greetings,

Stefan

Do you have a ventral shot of that spider? I see some hints of color on the undersides of the legs.
