For several months now both businesses have been selling medium crickets as large. I have been buying crickets for years and know what large looks like. Every time, I tell them the large are really considered medium. Another customer agreed with me. I think I will check-out a reptile store in Portland. Maybe they have TRUE large crickets.
And then the power went out while I was in Safeway. Good thing I have Bat-like qualities.

Are they the same species...if they changed to banded it would explain it as banded crickets don't get as big.

I've been buying from both for decades. IME they never sell true large crix. They do as you mentioned, primarily because mediums satisfy a range of animal sizes.

Sometimes feed stores actually sell large.
