crazy legs syndrome

It's been a long time since I saw a tarantula do the "spastic crazy legs" walk. Subject is a G. pulchra, she molted about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Now, she has no interest in food and just acts defensive and spastic. I have removed her from the tank, placed her in a very small container with HOT soaked TP and placed a warming light overhead. Years ago, I seem to remember managing to cure one this way. Anyone got a clue as to what actually causes this malady, or if I am doing things correctly? I've had here for about 8 years, I would hate to lose her to some stupid fungus or something just because I made some stupid mistake... Oh... and the other 3 G. pulchra are all entirely healthy and feeding, same room and environment.

THANKS!

Try putting the T in the bathroom while you shower.. It worked for Widowman, at least.

Sorry to hear that

Hot soaked toilet paper? And a warming/heat light?

Personally I would never do that. An ICU is moist paper towel, or toilet paper if you don't have that, linning a container that has a lid with holes in it, and is kept in a warmer dark part of the house.

Hot soaked toilet paper might do way more harm then good.

This sounds like a good way to cook a spider by accident.
Lol beat me by a key stroke. :worship:

{D I'm not a novice guys.... been raising spiders since 1984. I won't cook her. So what do you think? Dried out book lungs? Infection? Mold? Just curious, because I've seen it a few times before. Some survived.... some did not.:? :(

You’re going to have to elaborate a bit more.

Spastic as in........? Does it look like she forgot how to walk? Legs moving in a jerky un coordinated manor?

As ever...
When it comes to arachnids, everyone is an expert, and nobody has any real information. Genny is doing OK, still acting like she is having an epileptic seizure if you touch her, but somewhat more responsive. The links that everyone steered me toward concerned slings: This is an 8 year old adult, for those of you who read and do not comprehend. Please don't post or respond just for the sake of responding.
I'll hit up my zoological supply guy tomorrow... he is familiar with the syndrome. It is endemic to virtually all species of tarantulas, and if they make it to the next molt, they are fine... but mine just molted.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts and "advice". Now I know why I keep to myself.

That is the most arrogant thing I have read in a long time. I asked you questions to get a better idea of what was going on and you did not answer them.

Get real man, you did a poor job of explaining your problem to begin with.

Don't post a question if you are not willing to answer some first.

And for someone that "knows" so much about Ts, it sure seems silly that you used HOT soaked toilet paper to address your problem.

epileptic seizure if you touch her
Sounds like Dyskinetic Syndrome, and for the most part that is a fatal issue. I have heard of a few Ts recovering from it but not many. It effects both slings and adults. No one is sure why they get it or what causes it. But all hope is not lost, like I said I have heard of a few T's pulling through it.

He was making a joke. You can't be one. Unless you are marching to the beat of your own drum then you are the only leader in "your world".

It was a sideways snipe at his arrogance in his last post. I got it. And found it out loud funny. ;P
{D {D

seems like a few of us have had problems with this. i would be listening out for advice, especially with an 8" pulchra!! and i would listen to ryan, he knows what he's talking about. i have had a *little* bit of experience with this. as posted before (look it up, many threads :D) i caught it, and what i did just happened to work in that particular case.

and i thought that this would be the very best place to post any T related questions, especially with so many experts...
