I keep 3 adult m.gibbosus together for almost 2 months now without any problems.
I've also seen various adult hottentotta spp. kept communal too.

However this doesn't mean that they are indeed communal.

When adult they are reluctant to canibalize but at a younger age they can and will canibalize.

hi Nikos
i put my 2 gibbosus together and they avoided each other, and agression was shown...
are they communal or just hide in different hides?

George so far no signs of agression!
Definately I'm not encouraging anyone to keep this specie communal cause they are simply not communal!
I've seen adult m.gibbosus in the wild consuming younger speciments.

I keep 13 H. trilineatus communaly, no problem. As for the other Hottentotta sp. mentioned i'd say no. You might be able to keep a couple for mating purposes but make sure to separate if you see any aggression. As for Mesobuthus sp. i know that M. martensii is communal, but have'nt heard of any other spp.

Hi,

I´m keeping M. tamulus, H. j. salei and H. trilineatus in groups of several adult specimens mostly one male with 2 or 3 females. Only one time I observed cannibalism: Two adult gravid H. trilineatus females ate a male. But this might have been because they were gravid and I hadn´t fed them for about 3 weeks. To my experience it is not possible to raise any of the mentioned species (except for M. gibbosus of which I´m keeping just one subadult or adult specimen) communally without a lot of losses due to cannibalism. When they are adult they seem to tolerate each other but I wouldn´t call them communal.

Greetings

Hi,

I determined my specimens by pectinal tooth count and the length of the pectines. If I remember correctly my male has 36 teeth and the females around 32.

I should add that of all three mentioned species I very rarely observe two specimens sharing one hide. Usually every scorpion has it´s own.

Hi,

the size of the tank is big enough if you can offer 4 separate hides in the right temperature zone.

Greetings
