oh well im just confused what what your saying because I thought Eco-earth was pure cocofiber and your saying its not. Do you have a link to the stuff your using that you say has all that other stuff in it?
I dont see the stuff I used to get. When I did a search on eco earth substrates all I found was those similar to what you linked. It was shrink wrapped in clear shrink with a card in the front. I switched over to Forest Bed a long while ago.

I had a friend use 100% compressed coconut fiber. It was light colored and had alot of strands and fibers. He had fungus growths continually spawning in his enclosure. He had to completely change it out every couple weeks which was tough on the T. So I told him to switch over and not a problem since. Ill scout around and see if I can find any of the other eco earth stuff, it may have been changed.

edit- here is some forest bed substrate I use now for my jungle T's and those that like higher humidity.

I still can't find the eco bricks that were similar to this. And I am pretty sure it was eco earth brand. Hope that helps.

instead of boiling try baking it to sterilize. so when you put it into the enclosure it isnt damp and makes mold in the next few days.

i accidently sprayed the corkbark in my Ts tank and a few days later mold was growing on it. ..due to the moisture. so maybe it came from the moisture within the coconut/substrate
I use a microwave. My thinking is that if there's anything alive in there (mites, mold/fungus, etc.) it's more likely to be killed by the microwave than a regular oven. All the wood and soild that goes into my t enclosures gets nuked. The rocks get boiled and baked.

Mold on Corkbark??

i was under the impression that corkbark does not mold nearly as easily as other natural woods for hides, webbing, etc. Is it common for one accidental spray of water to cause mold?? This is really disappointing to me as i have been rehousing some of my T's with corkbark specifically because i thought it wasn't nearly as suseptible to mold. Errrr... How much ventilation did you have in that set-up? i'm so disappointed! :(
