I was not saying anything to the OP specifically, it was a general statement.

@OP: We do not have a H. lividum, but do have a H. sp. Vietnam. It is not a 'look at me, look at me' T, so it is always a big treat to see her at the top of her burrow looking black, beautiful and ferocious.
I wasn't meaning you specifically, I just don't like seeing a thread hijacked. Reading back over my post I sounded like a bit of a jerk and that wasn't my intention at all.

I don't know...I'd like to think I know what I'm doing by now.

Maybe I just kept her fed enough that she never had much reason to come out.
Keeping them a bit hungrier might result in more sightings.

Then again I never checked her during nighttime hours.
Look up some of Haplofool's videos. Check out this video:

I keep mine plump, and they still get out and about.

If Haplopelma lividum are similar in their burrowing activities to Citharischius crawshayi ,if that is the case......I would take pictures of it before you release it into it's tub.
I only ever saw my Citharischius crawshayi when I dug it out (which was fun:evil: ) and that was 4 months later.
You may never see it until you have to move it.......pet rock extreme

love mine and have some pics of her in my gallery, I see her a few times a year. As a keeper of OW of which many are "pet holes" I get disappointed at folks that lack the patience to keep some really great T's. if you want to see your T's all the time thats great but so many of the secretive species are well worth the rare sightings.

Yeah, put me in the "can't be bothered group". My space is too limited to keep what for all intents and purposes amounts to a tub of dirt.

My 5" H.lividum is out most of the time. I wish she was in her hole more when I have to clean her cage, as she will attack anything that gets too close.
H.lividum are a good looking T.

My H. lividum is out daily moving about. She is gorgeous and loves to eat and explore around. I don't know what the difference is between an example like mine and the 'holes'. I will say that when I bought her she was substantially more reclusive than she is now, which is about a month and a half post molt. Her conditions from the LPS I bought her from were pretty sad though. I handled her for the very first time today and it went surprisingly very smooth! I was very gentle though and watched her like a hawk! Here's some pics to keep you stoked about yours!
Here's some post molt by about a week:

Chillin'

Webbin'

and risking it all...

Hope you enjoy your lividum

Hey MrAwesome, that 2nd to last pic is awesome. I've never seen a photo showing the spinerettes that clearly. I've never really noticed how the joints in the spinners twist around at odd angles like that. Thanks for posting!

Oh, and that's a beautiful H. lividum. I had 2 for a while but they weren't anywhere near that blue, rather the more typical black/grey/blue coloration.

MR. Awesome I can't believe you are holding her. I would NEVER EVER try that with mine, she would rip my hand apart.

H.lividum.....very nice.
If you know what you are doing,it is pretty easy to handle any spider or scorpion....no matter how dangerous.

I don't touch any of my T's, I just give them what they need and appreciate them for what they are.

First off, thanks for the compliments on the photos. I really appreciate the positive feedback. As far as handling is concerned, I don't at all do it to set a bad example or show off. To me, it's a way to connect with my animal. I've been picking up everything I could get my hands on since I was a kid and somehow this hobby takes me back to that tranquil place. For some reason, this hobby is very peaceful to me. To handle a lividum gently and maintain that peace without disruption is almost zen-like when you think about it or at the very least somewhat poetic. If you're not comfortable then enjoy them to whatever degree it takes to make you happy!
