I had one for a couple years, i may have seen it 5 times. She rarely came out of her burrow.

+1

I finally came to the conclusion that there was no point in feeding a hole in the ground and sold her.

I was planning on getting a H. lividum but after learning about the 'pet hole' and reading the posts on this board, I decided against it.

If you keep them right you can and will see them. My female is out of her burrow every day, through the day.

Here is a pic:

I can't wait till I get mine. Their attitutude and pet hole status doesn't bother me. I'm used to that with my king baboon and their color isn't near as striking as the lividum. I'm debating on lividum being my first breeding attempt but that won't be until next year, if I even do it.

Good luck with your mean eight legged smirf.

Did not want to bring this up but can we all start using scientific names so there is no confusion about what we are talking about.
I used to use common names but saw the error of my ways.
It makes sense guys.
Haplopelma lividum
Cobalt blue is not a tarantula.......and if you are unsure ........all you have to do is google the name and it will give you the scientific and then it is just copy and paste :D .....this makes it easier for everyone.

I can't spell king baboon's scientific name but I did say lividum instead of cobalt blue. ;P

Seriously though I do agree with you. I really prefer scientific names over common names hands down. Everyone knows exactly what t is being discussed and not having to guess.

You are spot on......just being lazy on my part and I am sorry.....it will not happen again :embarrassed:
Just makes it so much easier with scientific names.
I just bought a macrothele gigas but if I said Japanese funnel web spider.......it would lead to confusion.
I will not make that mistake again and thank you for pointing it out :D

Agreed, but cut the OP some slack as he is somewhat new to the boards. I think everyone here immediately knew that he meant H. lividum, as they are a very common species. There's no need to continue hijacking this thread when spit said all that needed to be said about the use of scientific names IMO.

I was not saying anything to the OP specifically, it was a general statement.

@OP: We do not have a H. lividum, but do have a H. sp. Vietnam. It is not a 'look at me, look at me' T, so it is always a big treat to see her at the top of her burrow looking black, beautiful and ferocious.

I don't know...I'd like to think I know what I'm doing by now.

Maybe I just kept her fed enough that she never had much reason to come out.
Keeping them a bit hungrier might result in more sightings.

Then again I never checked her during nighttime hours.
