That's odd. All of my cat sh#* specimens are exceptionally docile and very inactive. A pet rock... They appear to be communal and multiply like crazy too. It seems there's a new one every time I turn around.

How does anybody get an H. lividum and not know they're lightning fast and mean as the devil? That's about all they're known for! {D Well, that and staying in their burrow for a year. And having pretty nasty venom.

I have raised from egg to death this species and all I can say is that they pretty fast due to them being a burrowing species. Most individuals being kept only give me threat poses when they cannot find their burrow or if they are touched, breathed on, and etc...

Most individuals stay brown until they are about 2"-3" then you can faintly see the blue in the right lighting. Freshly molted individuals seem to be the brightest blue. Most however have very dark blue legs and grey bodies with chevron markings on the abdomen.

If you look at it from the spiders point of view. The animal that's many times larger, that it can't get away from appears to be the meaner species. :)

Mine is around 2.5" and it has already sporting it's blue suede shoes. Mine is pretty calm compared to your description of yours. Enjoy! They are pretty neat spiders.

One of mine is still light tan with chevrons, one is showing legs that are a vivid blue with a tan body and chevrons and one is still dark brown. All were dark brown and of the same size when I got them and now they range from 2" to 3". It's hard to measure accurately but the one that is still dark brown is the smallest.

I hope it's not found ONLY in Brazil, since the government of Brazil will not allow it to be exported. I don't like to see wild populations heavily impacted by collecting, but getting a few breeders established in captivity would be great.

If you are not joking about the cobalt blue, I am curious how you did that? What tempurature do you keep yours at?
Do you feed them often?

He was talking about cat :poop: when he wrote that post 2½ years ago...

And greyzone, I haven't heard of these available yet. Check out Thrixopelma cyaneum. They are hard to come across though
