Jets had babys ! few quetions . should i remove the other 2 scorps ?
What should I feed them? How long should they stay with the mom ? will they all live ?
Based on my experiences with this species you should remove the mother with the babies from any communal enclosure as there is a very good chance the other adults will cannibalize the babies. I would put the mother in her own deli cup with several hides for the babies to got to when they leave the mother. Once they are off the mother you can place her back in the communal enclosure. Keep the babies in the deli cup.
For the babies: I have had good success with almost no mortality by raising them together and keeping them well fed with pinhead crickets. I provided 2-3 small hides in the delicup and keep one hide at a higher humidity by misting it twice per week. I used the bottoms from peat seedling cups for the hides.
IMO/IME this is a relatively easy species to raise from birth.
I would not directly mist them if that is what you meant. What I meant was that in the method I used I provided several hides that absorbed moisture...in my case I used the peat seedling/seed starter cups cut down to only about 1.5"/4cm tall and inserted 2-3 in the delicup with the babies. The only moisture I provided was to moisten or lightly mist one of the peat cups. This allows the scorpions to choose what level of humidity is best. The deli cup only had 10-15 small holes to provide ventilation and prevent escape.
M.martensii are a very forgiving species for keeping in captivity and are reported to be found in dry desert regions as well as in the intertidal zones in eastern Asia. There lifespans are short as are those of most buthids.
Ok half are running around on there own ! should i remove them or just wait til they are all off ?? I cruched a larged cricket for mom to snack on ! and a water bug yester day , and babay fruit flies are in ther for the babays !
I just misted thne a little looks like the are doing fine ! what i'm doing wrong or what I should do better ?
