I cannot see why you just don't install a name change plugin which allows the user to change there name so many times in that month and puts a username change box in the user pannel.. Saves you time and messing around taking username change requests. Try not to be so strict installing new things, i see you are, honestly there is some nice plugins out there.

Even better, to make more money on your subscriptions you could add options like where u can only change the name if your a supporter, you will get more people signing up if you have more options when purchasing a subscription :}

Just an idea.
