I attempted a search, but came across no relevant information. I was hoping that someone here with experience keeping C. ritae can direct me to a care sheet or provide me with some basic information. I picked a mature female up over the weekend and I want to make sure I provide the environment she needs. Thank you!

  • AUER, H.-W. (2009): Cyriocosmus ritae PÉREZ-MILES, 1998 in Peru – Habitat, Lebensweise, Haltung und Vermehrung. ARACHNE 14(6): 4-11.

    Summary:
Hans-Werner Auer describes the habitus, courtship and mating behavior of Cyriocomus ritae. Also, he provides information regarding the natural habitat of this species, which he was able to collect during a trip to Peru.

I appreciate the response, but I do not have access to that journal, nor do I have any idea where to locate the particular issue you referenced. Care information readily available to the public on the internet would be more useful. Thanks.

Internet makes people lazy?

Anyhow, I have the impression, that there are more information about tarantulas outside the internet than to be found on it, especially, when you are looking for "good"/"accourate"/reviewed/... information. But, that's just my personal and humble impression.

nix für ungut!

Appreciate the elitist attitude, truly.

Seriously, I tried the website you linked and it was in a language that is foreign to me. I could call my German grandfather to attempt a translation, but really? The most I could gather is that you wanted my money to join some club in order to receive the journal. I also highly doubt my local library would carry a European tarantula scientific journal.

I suppose it's a lot to ask for a few tidbits of information for the sake of a tarantula's health and comfort. *sigh*

Thank you! I needed that one!

Hello UhOhZombies ,

-mood in perfection!?

Appreciate the elitist attitude, truly.
you are welcome!

…sometimes I wish I would keep my mouth shut. – If I wouldn’t have tried to help with a literature reference, I wouldn’t get such “nice” replies, wouldn’t I!? Maybe I should once again take a off time from the fora and better help/answer people their questions, who really appreciate my help instead of being unsatisfied, when the answer to their questions is not presented on the silver plate! *sigh*

Seriously, I tried the website you linked and it was in a language that is foreign to me.
I linked this >>website<< so, English is a foreign language to you, even you are writing here on an American forum in English!? *hmmm…*

I also highly doubt my local library would carry a European tarantula scientific journal.
since it has an ISSN number, any library should be able to get the article via inter library lown!

I suppose it's a lot to ask for a few tidbits of information for the sake of a tarantula's health and comfort. *sigh*
IMO what a lame phrase! *sigh* Sorry, but if YOU would really care for the health and comfort of a tarantula, WHY do you buy a tarantula, you don’t know how to take care for!? If YOU really would think like that, wouldn’t it be better to INFORM YOUSELF about the care BEFORE you buy the spider? …but probably it is easier to search the fault in others, instead of searching it in the own behaviour, isn’t it!?

Anyhow, I don’t keep this species, so I can’t give you information from my own experience. And, I don’t think it is my job, only because I know of a literature reference, that I have to read it, translate it and sum it up for you, or is it?! I just wanted to be of help, by giving a reference I know which contains a lot of information about this species – thanks for your reaction. Shows me, that I can save some time next time!

Have a nice day!
Martin

A deli cup half full of substrate does fine for all my Cyrios... I have a friend who has like 200 and they spend their whole adult life in it. Every week, pour water and throw a cricket the same size or less than the bug's abdomen. They need no special care and none died on me. House them the very same way you'd house any spider under 2''.

Thanks Merfolk, for proving it's not difficult to impart a little knowledge without a ton of fuss. I was just trying to figure out if they required any special care, not write a dissertation. I greatly appreciate your time and info.

btw, cheers for the idea to do summaries of each article in English! Didn't know for that, until checked link. :)

Best regards Uros

I have to agree with Martin here:

I suppose Merfolk answered the question to your satisfaction though, so I guess we're done here.

I think I am detecting a common theme in this spider keeping thingy... A cup, some peat, a dribble of water, and a cricket..... seems easy enough... :)
