i only really handle when i have to i.e. the spider is climbing out its tank and i dont have any containers to catch it in

mine seem fine so i dont really pick them up.. i guess i maybe should hold them a bit more so its a bit natural and comfortable to hold them, as i kinda get an adrenaline rushwhen they run out and i have to stop them with my hands :D

Feels wierd!

Holding ANY bug!
I handle ALL of my other pets, so why not my T's.
The day I bought my Rosie I held her for a minute.
But now she won't even let me touch her water dish! Yesterday, I was cleaning everyones house
and when I reached into my Rio Gold's home, she
walked across my hand, so I let her go up my arm
a little. I had a hard time getting her back in the box! Still, it was a really wierd feeling.

After awhile she started climbing further up, and I was unsuccessful in getting her to come back down. I was, contrary to my usual habit of not wearing a shirt (I don't like getting urticating bristles on my clothing and they make it tough to know where the spider is if it gets onto your back as they can walk along on my clothing and I can hardly feel it), wearing a t-shirt and she decided that she was going to crawl inside. With my arm lifted up in the air she proceeded to crawl right up into my armpit. I would be lying if I said I wasn't suffering a touch of nerves at this point but with some gentle prodding from the outside I got her to come back out and got her back into her tank. No threat postures or even mad dashing on her part, but I think it will be awhile before I try to handle her again.

Still, there's nothing like an 8-inch Pokie sniffing your 'pits.

what is it about pokies and armpits?!
My P formosa, or was it my fasciata? ran into my armpit, and I ended up cutting my shirt off me with a pair of scissors LOL
There is a thread about it somewhere....it was pretty funny.
He was settling down for the duration, and I just didn't feel like that was a place I wanted a pokie to cozy up in!

haha thats insane :D

do your different types of spiders feel considerably different to handle, or all pretty similar?

i wouldnt mind getting more friendly with my T's just to remove some verves i get when they get out.. any advice at all would be most appreciated

(at the mo i only really hold them when my family is around and they persist on touching them, or when im moving them around)

My guess is warmth plus darkness/shade, but as chemoreceptive as Ts are I find it odd that they would find that a welcome place to go. Surely armpits smell like 'big, hairy mammal' more than just about anywhere else. Unless your deodarant hasn't been obliterated by the day's work yet, in which case Pokies maybe have a thing for Right Guard or Ladies' Speedstick.

The only T I've handled is my male green bottle blue, most of my friends (even the biggest arachnophoebs) have tried it after seeing how calm it is.
