Sorry for the bad pic guys. I am going to post a clearer one today. She has just now started to settle into her new setup and I didn't want to mess with her quite yet.

I appreciate all the efforts. Hopefully a clearer pic and maybe and overall will help make things a little clearer.

Here are a few more photos. Hopefully this will give you a better idea.

Is there any other way to sex an imperator besides the length of the teeth and the size of the pectine and the shape of the opperculum. Are their tails and bodies different like other species?

I think what is happening is that 'Athlon2K' has never put up a new pic and that the "clear" pics were 'Galapoheros' and then 'jeroenkooijman' commented on those.

@ Athlon2K- copy how 'Galapoheros' took his pics and put up a clear unangled pic of the pectin.

And my 2 cents worth is the pic from 'Athlon2k' (from that angle) looks female, short teeth and heart shaped opperculum
I apologize, didn't watch carefully enough it seems ;)
Athlon2K, Thaedion is right looks like it has a heart shaped opperculum. Yours is a female. The emp from Galapoheros is a male.

I may take better pics, I need to go get more freezer bags anyway. But, the recent posts still sound a little strange to me. I've got three pictures in my first post, not just one. The first pic is of a female I have, the second is of a male I have and the third is just a pic of a Reynolds Wrap scorp.

I see the first picture now, before it was a red cross. I thought it would be a same picture as the second and therefore I thought all pictures were the same.

Now I do see three pictures, first a female then a male and then the wrapped picture. Guess I should get a better computer, my laptop did show all three pictures.

Well if she is indeed a female I wonder what the chances are of her being pregnant. Hopefully I can get some better pics here in a little bit. I made salsa not to long ago, not thinking that I was going to be handling my scorp.

Wow, she's pretty fat. Hope you get babies.
Just to note almost all of the female emps I owned (6 of them) were gravid when purchased, the only one did not have babies was the one that looked fat though.

I just don't understand, I know I would be curious if mine are gravid but the only one way to know is just wait. I hate waiting but its much easier than having a 100 different people tell me 50/50.

Introduce a male, see if they mate. Does she reject him? Then try it every 2 weeks until you witness the male attempt a mating and see where it goes. You can setup a mating tank with perfect humidity/temp and just some flat rocks on top of moist coconut fiber/peat moss whatever. Then if you see it happen and there has been a spermatophore placed. If the female rejects him then thats a good chance she is already gravid and it's time to wait.

Other than that you will not know unless you witness a mating for the most part. I've heard of people scorpions giving birth and had no signs of it such as size. Try not feeding her for a few weeks to a month and see if she gets smaller.

Well hasn't eaten yet. I just got her a couple of nights ago. She seems to be settling in pretty nicely. I think most are gravid from pets stores because they keep them in communal setups. I had another emp that was almost as big and a female but she wasn't nearly as fat on the sides as this one. What is the gestation period of emps? Isn't it like 9 months?

Not most, adults can be.

9-18 months. A very long time.

My female was semi fat, my male attempted a mating and they broke the kiss and no spermatophore, so I know there is a good chance of her being gravid from another encounter in the wild. I will just have to wait until she pops, since I traded them both.

Good luck just don't worry about it. Less stress on the both of you.

I'm thinking they are usually gravid from breeding in the wild. Most pet stores have their setups over crowded with no good places for breeding, so stressed in those terrs. I have a captive born and bred female that's cooking some up right now. She mated with a HUGE male months ago. I've had her since a scorpling. Expecting a brood from the really big female I took a pic of in this thread too. Hope to post baby pictures later. Good luck with getting babies. The odds are good that she's gravid IMO but, don't get your hopes up like cyris69 was saying. I'd just try to put in in the back of your head and take care of her.

This is the only one that never produced babies, even though she was FAT

Is there any videos out there of scorps giving birth? I still have not seen that oddity. I guess in about 7 months when my AZ bark pops, but I kind of want to know what to expect.

I need meditate on that reminder. Yeah I've done that a few times too. I've gotten up to go look at what I did and think, "oh nooo!"

I've never seen a vid. If they aren't out there, I bet it's just a matter of time with all the vid craze hitting the net now.
