Can shining a light on a tarantula at night hurt it?

It wont physically hurt it, but might annoy it. A bright light on the enclosure 24 hours a day could possabily stress the spider, but a quick peak with a light is ok. If it does bother the spider it will prob run frantically from the light.

Thanks! I only used the light from my cell phone, so I don't think it could hurt.

That'll be just fine as long as you don't do it constantly. I just use a regular flashlight to check on mine.

Some of mine don't really care for it, others don't seem to notice it.

Tarantulas witenessed lightning strikes for millions of years, a quick flash now and then wont bother it, they are mostly nucturnal tho so a constant spot light will agitate it

Since T eyes have no irises, no mechanism for eyes adapting to different light levels, and we know that occasionally they endure full sunlight, I think it's really unlikely that a flashlight would cause physical harm. I wouldn't use a laser pointer though.
