How do you hold your lid on?
Its set deep in the lip...it basically holds its self into place...I need to pry it out when I open it...its set tight enough that I don't need to add clips or anything...I do keep a G.pulchripes juvie on the top though....just because that's where I keep it, not as a measure to hold it down.

I bought three ten gallons and I am debating on how to rig them. I am thing about setting one up on its side to achieve the most floor space and them creating a front opening door system like an arboreal set up. I don't know yet though.

Kritter Keepers are very transparent , but if you are really dead set on glass that is fine , just get the proper lid.

Here are some of my collection in Kritter Keepers just to compare visibility. I too want them all to be visible, I don't like the look of opaque barely visible containers stacked in a corner. Also, better visibility = better care. You don't want to be uncertain where the spider is before you open the lid. All of these images were taken through the plastic, yet you cannot even tell if you did not know any better.

Hey darkness, I am struggling to find the clear kritter keepers you mentioned. When going on amazon I see mixed reviews on different models saying they aren't clear, etc. Do you mind pointing me to some links that have clear kritter keepers? I use amazon mainly but others are okay. Thanks.

I am getting mixed responses of yes and no and don't know which is right. I will start out with a beginner T like a b. albopilosum, e. campestratus, or maybe g. pulchripes. I am thinking a 5.5 gallon aquarium with the typical metal mesh lid. Providing substrate, hide, water dish. Would this be secure, and safe for the T. Thanks
Any of those 3 will work. I have all but E camp.

I would get pulchripes over albos any day because generally they are far less likely to fling urticating setae. Anything in the Brachy genus is a COMPLETE AND TOTAL crap shoot as to how flicky it will be.

That size tank is too big for a sling. Mesh screen tops are bad.

Generally we favor a 1.5x DLS distance from sub floor to lid to prevent T from going up, fall and splat dead.

If you want something of that style, get a ExoTerra Breeder Box when it gains some size. If you are getting a juvi or adult you could drop a T right into those immediately.

Petco has clear ones. ExoTerra makes clear ones as well.

Yeah, literally just visited pecto. They are called imagitariums. The one there said it was 11.7 x 7.7 x 8. Is that good for an adult T at around 6"? I am guessing I shouldn't use the panorama(circle version) 10.3 x 5.5)

I know slings shouldn't be in a big tank, I just figure for my first T i'll try to get a sub adult or adult.
Also what enclosures should I use for each general size of a T? I know many use pill jars and such but not sure where online you can buy them? I am guessing the imagitarium can hold Ts 4-6" maybe 3"? A reply is appreciated, thanks

Personally I think that's too small in length. I keep my adult NW terrestrials in ExoTerra Breeder Box Large. Opens from the top, and 2 side feeding doors that come in very handy for adding crix and water.

Small containers for slings, depends on the species a bit. Generally, small condiment cups, 16 and 32 oz deli cups work GREAT! People use AMAC boxes as well. I use materials that are completely clear.

Which exactly are you saying that the size is too small?

What do you use for adult arboreals?

Thanks again.

One moment, almost every KK is the same. What I've noticed that can differ, during all of those years, is the top and the locking system, the window/s size etc

A lot of years ago I had a couple of KK made by a Belgium brand with a top opening so awkward and kinda 'hard' to open that was noisy like Manowar on stage.

Personally I use the 'Dragon' brand, made in Germany. Excellent quality, and their XXL model is basically perfect for pet holes.

Sorry the first one.

Adult aboreals-- depends on their size. Some species are small, like A. minatrix, some are the largest, like P. rufilata.

Thanks, one last thing, So you said that imagitarium from petco was too small. What exactly is the template for Ts' enclosure size. I already knew the height is 1.5 dls. There are 2 things I hear that the length should be 3x dls and the width 2x dls. Then I also hear that the length or width should be at least 2x dls. Which do I go by, because the large exo terra breeding box is 16.3 x 10.4. So is that too small for an adult terrestrial at 5-6"?

Imaginarium, faunarium, kritter keeper, they're all basically the same. They're all clear from my experience.

I don't use them for adults of every species, just ones small enough to be comfortable in one.

This one is in a large size one. The spider is about 5" to 5.5" DLS give or take.

You have to guage if they'll have enough room to stretch and move around a bit if desired.

A large Breeder Box is not too small for adult NW terrestrial, they will use all of it.

Personal preference on size, I personally believe in giving a captive animal as much space as possible, but at a minimum more length and width than their physical size.

U can buy plastic fish tank lids that a tarantula wont get stuck in. There are even two screw out holes on them for feeding and watering (put the water right under a hole). The acrylic looks better, but the fish tank lids work good too.

I can't seem to find any online? Could you provide a link, preferably on amazon? Thanks
