Can I feed T's silk worms?

While visisting a pet store outside of Pittsburg, I noticed that they sell silk worms as feeders for some lizards. They are expensive ($0.37 each) but they claim that they offer more nutrition than crickets and other foods.

So what do all of you think/know?

Thanks for all the help.

In my experience T's can take almost all commercially available reptile foods. I'm sure since silk worms are great for fattening up reptiles they'd be more than adequate for your spiders.

You should no problem feeding silk worms to T's. I have used wax worms in the past with no problems. As long as the worms are sold as feeders, you should be fine. I would avoid any type of wild caught food.

Silkworm Suitability

Hello,

Silkworms are a very good feeder for any insect eater. Silkworms can be fed to anything that you would feed crickets or mealworms to. I dont use crickets or mealworms. I use many other types of feeders however such as silkworms roaches and Phasmids as examples. You can use silkworms as a replacement for crickets. Silkworms are nutrionally superior in every way to crickets and can also be ordered on line for a lot less then what you are paying now. If you have access to Mullberry leaves all the better. I usually just peruse the insect forum here but I saw your post so I wanted to reply. So to summarize silkworms are nutrionally superior to crickets and can be used to completely replace them.

the only problem you might have is some T's seem not as enthusiastic about eating worm-form creatures... maybe they don't trigger the T's tremble sense enough to register as suitable prey or something
but for those that are willing, worms are a way better food than crix (since crix come from the devil, after all)

I have seen "T's" at my local pet store eating them, but have yet to see one of my "T's" eat one.

As I type this my 4" B. smithi is playing with one, but seems hesitant to dig in.

This spider usually attacks everything (adult crickets, superworms, waxworms) but still has not consumed a silk worm yet. I have tried on several occasions, but have yet to see one of my spiders consume one.

I'd just keep in mind that they are rather fattening like wax worms I would just err on the side of caution and offer a variety of foods instead of too much of one.
