Last night for no apparent reason my Haplopelma lividum died.
I got it in February. It was a female 6". All seemed fine with it. It was up on the side of the glass doing fine. Came home later and it was on the floor dead.
I have other t's and they all seem fine.

Did you have it properly housed?

How do you know it was female?

Were its legs curled?

Was it upside down?

Spiders can die from 'old age' just like anything else...

i've do believe i've seen posts about "up and die syndrome" and have had it happen once (possibly), but before that is even on the table i'd rule out everything you can check that joe listed.

i'll hazard a guess actual cases where everything else is ruled out, UADS is internal issues/moult complications keepers can't see the symptoms of.

Well, it's definitely possible. There is S.A.D.S., but as far as your Haplopelma lividum, sometimes things just happen. Syndromes, disease, and just plain old age. Its body may have shut down internally.

Did it normally spend its time on the side of the glass? I don't think that's normal for H. lividum. Any idea how old it was? Wild caught?

Ruling everything else out, tarantulas, like all other living beings, can just drop dead for no apparent reason.

It was a female. It was already an adult. She wasn't upside down molting. I wish she was. She was in the death curl. I took her out today. Very dead.
I was very sudden. I'm not sure how old it was. The dealer did not know as well. Got it from Ken the Bug Guy and he's a solid dealer.
I know the H. lividum burrows and mine did as well. Sometimes she crawls up the sides.
Extreme bummer. Cost me a pretty penny also since it was a female.
Next time I will start from a sling or a juvie that way In know the age a little better.

The dealer didn't know how old it was because it was wild caught.

That's what happens when you buy WC, in my opinion.

Sorry to hear about this. Folks are right though, T's just up and die for no apparent reason. I like the idea of getting slings so you can have a better idea of age. That's the way I get most of my T's.

Oh please please don't get started with another syndrome!

Old age, cage set up, fall? Yes. Anything can just "die".
No, actually there is always a cause of death... Nothing "just dies". There is always a reason. Be it not everytime the reason is known. However, there is still a reason.

Or for the owner, TURDS: Terribly Upset it's Really Dead Syndrome

Anyway, wild caught can be very old, and yes, they can die from old age with no notice. If it didn't have a burrow that could have accelerated the process due to stress (or whatever anthropomorphism you want to attribute to spiders being wigged out).
