So.. crazy times.
Our camel spider (pretty sure it’s a Paragaleodes sp egypt) arrived in our house in January. She seemed to thrive in a 5 gallon tarantula room enclosure with desert sand, cork/wood hides, a succulent and a cactus as well as a rock for climbing. She went a bit dormant (without me understanding exactly why), so I rehoused her into a 2,5 gallon one (as we needed the bigger one for an adult T). Turned out she was going into premolt and molted a few weeks later (in March). At this point we assumed she was a “he”.
Made a little vid here:
Late april I noticed her abdomen starting to look like it was filled with balls, and a week ago she “erupted“ with eggs.
She is still alive and seems to “gather” herself, rounding up her eggs if disturbed. I ordered excavating clay to supplement her sand (hoping it would turn up before she laid eggs), as they like to burrow when laying eggs. It hasn’t arrived yet, but the eggs did, so now I’m a bit at a loss of what to do.
Do I pull the eggs and make an incubator?
Tarantula egg sacs you usually leave for 30 days before pulling, right? But camel spider eggs apparently hatch sooner.
At which point is it ideal to separate the eggs (preventing mummy from eating them, while giving them the best environment to develop)?
Got to say I’m a bit confused by the fact she’s been with us for 6 months and gone through molt, while having been gravid the whole time..
I’ve read their gestation period is meant to only be, like, 11 days..
Could these be un-fertilised “phantom” eggs?
