I got a .5 inch versicolor sling 6 days ago and it seemed to be doing fine until I found it on the ground this morning. I posted on reddit and someone suggested that my substrate might be too moist and I needed more ventilation holes. The substrate isn't very wet but I decided to get dryer substrate in there and try to get more holes drilled. When I tried to get the sling out I noticed it can't hardly walk at all and moves its legs crazy and tumbles on its side. What's going on? 20230609_080015.jpg

Could you get a better pic of it ? That enclosure may be too large has it even climbed much ? Looks like it’s on the ground . If it does this running, wobbly behavior again film it and post it here .

Your enclosure doesn't look too bad, actually, but I'm not sure if this pic is from before or after you made changes to it. Even in this pic, though, the sub looks too wet. If it was in an enclosure with wet/moist substrate and low ventilation then there's a good chance that is the issue - they do not tolerate those conditions well at all. I would suggest you leave the substrate completely dry, and put a small water dish in for it to drink from if needed, but that is all the moisture there should be in the enclosure. That's about all you can do at this point, hopefully it'll recover.

Yes it's been in the top of the enclosure and webbed up a little spot up there until it was on the ground this morning. I have a video of it trying to move

This is the enclosure before I did anything to it. I appreciate the advice!

Hmm maybe it’s just dehydrated get it a tiny water dish or something. I’m not sure the best place to put it , or if there’s a spot for it to sit on the bark .

We're you able to see the the video? I added a water dish but I don't have any water in it yet incase it's a humidity issue

Get a pic of current version. Just for suggestions if any . No rush ;) thnx for video .
The video was the current situation. I was going to add more ventilation and dryer substrate but after seeing the way it moved, I didn't know whether to leave it alone or continue

Yes it works ! Get a pic so we can see the ventilation holes too .
might as well fill the dish , unless your planning on adding ventilation soon.which can’t be suggested without a pic we’re we can see the ventilation holes .

I have it drilled like this on 2 sides. The top did have holes but I covered them up because they were big enough for an escape

Has it eaten since you've had it?

Looks like enough holes , we’ll see what others think?
I’d try feeding it soon.

Honestly it looks like it's been exposed to a toxin of some sort. Any pesticides in the house that it could have come into contact with, including flea/tick treatment for dogs or cats? I asked if it had eaten because toxins can be introduced through tainted prey items sometimes. All you can really do now is wait to see if it recovers...

I was wondering the same thing and I can't think of anything at all. My other slings seem to be thriving.

Good to hear your others are doing well. Avic and Versi slings can be a bit challenging, but if you keep their care simple it's not hard. @viper69 replied up above - there's a link in his signature to a great thread on caring for them that you might find helpful.
